HK’s Govt Smart Lab Firm Launches Ai-Knowie

Hong Kong Ai-Knowie

Hong Kong’s Smart Government Innovation Lab recently announced that it is looking for companies to apply to acquire and deploy a solution developed by one of its supported ventures.

The solution, called Ai-Knowie, is an intelligent enterprise and knowledge-based engine that compresses the time needed to access insights.

The solution is capable of ingesting a high volume of documents and data in various formats via its Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. It then automates repetitive business processes with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and provides users with valuable insights into performance and other types of information.

Areas of Applications Ai-Knowie

Areas of application for the technology include in Broadcasting, City Management, Climate and Weather, Commerce and Industry, Development, Education, Employment and Labour, Environment initiatives, Finance, Food, Health, Housing, Infrastructure, Law and Security, Population monitoring, Recreation and Culture, Social Welfare as well as Transport.

Technologies Used

The technologies employed by the venture include Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Robotic Process Automation, and Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

Use Case

According to the venture, the solution can be used to digitise medical records management in public hospitals. Using Ai-Knowie, patients’ health information on medical records will be updated automatically in the system once the medical records have been scanned.

Once the hard copies of medical records are scanned and handwritten texts are extracted from paper medical records, Ai-Knowie, which has been developed to understand the context of data, then classifies the scanned data. This renders patients’ health information readily available in digital format. Moreover, the data is automatically updated in the back-end system by Ai-Knowie.

Benefits of Ai-Knowie

Automating the process of updating patients’ health information with Ai-Knowie will not only save time and effort for staff but also minimize possible human errors.

More benefits include:

  1. Streamlining the data-entry process by avoiding duplicating efforts
  2. Reducing human errors and making cross-check easier
  3. Eliminating repetitive tasks and improving the productivity of hospital staff

OpenGov Asia has covered the various innovative solutions ventures supported and incubated at the Smart Government Innovation Lab have achieved.

For example, earlier in January 2020, one venture developed a LiDAR and Optical Sensing application for Smart City development.

The technology is described as a customizable LiDAR solution for 3D geometric structure acquisition that can be deployed in different public service applications including but not limited to digital archiving, object monitoring, smart city development, and management.

Areas of application include City Management, Climate and Weather, Development, environment initiatives, Housing and Infrastructure development, Law and Security, Population monitoring, Transport, as well as in Heritage Conservation.

The company uses AI as well as a slew of other emerging technologies including Cloud Computing, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Robotic Process Automation, Virtual Reality and more.

Established in 2018, by the Hong Kong government, the Smart Government Innovation Lab aims to explore hi-tech products such as AI and relevant technologies (like cognitive systems, intelligent agents as well as blockchain and robotics) made by various tech firms, especially by local start-ups.

The Lab is always looking out for I&T solutions that are conducive to enhancing public services or their operational effectiveness.

Moreover, I&T suppliers are encouraged to regularly visit the Lab’s website to check on the current business and operational needs in public service delivery, and propose innovative solutions or product suggestions to address them.
