Presently, Vietnam has mastered about 90% of the ecosystem of cybersecurity products serving Party and State agencies. It is also likely to be one among few countries that will master 100% of the ecosystem, the Minister of Information and Communications, Nguyen Manh Hung, has said.
Speaking at the Vietnam Information Security Day 2020 International Conference and Exhibition on 2 December, Minister Hung said that Vietnam must assert national sovereignty and prosperity in cyberspace, and everyone has the responsibility to protect that environment.
According to a press release, to ensure the highest level of safety for the country’s information technology system, products, and services, Vietnam has to have competent experts in this field. The President of the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA), Nguyen Thanh Hung, explained that cybersecurity with “Make in Vietnam” technologies is a key factor in national digital transformation.
The event was themed, “Cybersecurity Ecosystem Make in Vietnam – Key Success Factor for National Digital Transformation”. It aimed at connecting cybersecurity businesses, units using cybersecurity products and services, and policymaking agencies. This will lead to better handling of issues related to cybersecurity of all individuals, organisations, and businesses by Vietnamese people’s solutions, Hung stated.
He also urged relevant agencies, organisations, enterprises, and associations to work together to train more experts on cybersecurity and safety. Representatives from many businesses shared opinions on issues regarding digital platforms and the possible solutions. They said that Vietnam is lacking senior experts on cybersecurity and safety.
Recently, HCMUS. Twice, a student team from the University of Natural Science under the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), triumphed in the final round of the 2020 ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security.
The finale brought together ten teams from Vietnam and six others from ASEAN member states whose abilities were tested on how to mount cyber-attacks against their opponents and to defend their own computer networks within eight hours.
HCMUS.Twice won the first prize with 6,900 points. NotEfiens from the VNU-HCM’s University of Technology and AmongUs from FPT University, Hanoi shared the second prize.
The third prize was claimed by MSEC_ADC from the Military Technical Academy, Pawsitive from the VNU-Hanoi’s University of Engineering and Technology, ISIT-DTU1 from Duy Tan University, and PTIT.Infern0 from the Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Hanoi.
The competition was organised by the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA) as part of a series of events to mark the Vietnam Information Security Day. The contest has been held annually in Vietnam for the last 13 years.
Another event, the Techfest Vietnam 2020, which concluded on 29 November, saw over 120 connections and about US$14 million worth of investment committed for innovative and startup projects.
This year’s three-day Techfest featured about 40 events, such as conferences, seminars, forums, and exhibitions, which attracted a total of 6,500 participants. All of its live-streamed events had at least 35,000 viewers tuning in.
The event reflected the development of Vietnam’s innovative and startup ecosystems which have kept up with the global stage. Vietnam wants to welcome more foreign investors, experts, and international organisations to participate, share experience, and seek partnerships at next year’s event. It gathered close to 300 enterprises and startup accelerators who exhibited a wide range of innovative ideas and products, many of which have been developed by students from domestic vocational training centres.
