The Digital Economy and Society Ministry of Thailand has worked with all sectors to speed up the development of digital workers with high-level skills. A multinational technology company cited that the Thai digital economy could be worth as much as a trillion baht in 2025 -this gives the nation hope that the nation’s digital transformation might grow more rapidly.

Chaiwut Thanakmanusorn, the Minister of Digital Economy and Society, oversaw the launch of the “Samart Skills” project, which was done in collaboration with the government, educational institutions, and the private sector. The goal of the project is to help develop highly skilled digital workers, who are a key part of the growth of the digital economy.

It also deals with the problem of people having different levels of digital skills. Hence, a private partner that gave scholarships to students, made it possible for Thai people to get the education they needed to get jobs in the market.

In addition, vocational students interested in this programme can attend classes at no cost to develop their knowledge and abilities with an appropriate programme, thus participants will have the opportunity to find suitable work for them.

The Thai digital economy and society have undergone substantial growth in recent years, hence, this initiative is valuable to extend the Thailand 4.0 policy and generate highly trained digital employees, as required by the existing and future market.

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society also encourage the public to learn about digital technology and computer science, which includes thinking in a systematic way. It has built the idea of digital innovation, which is a key part of providing the citizen with a better public service through empowering its personnel.

Further, it has produced readiness by creating “digital city development people” through the project of a new generation of digital city developers. This aims to improve their knowledge and skills to build a strong economy.

Likewise, cybersecurity is a foundation of the organisation’s defence against the many cyber risks used by con artists or dangerous individuals. Due to the shortage of cybersecurity specialists, attacks and damage have occurred.

This impacts the global social order and economic stability of nations. Therefore, it is vital to develop the staff responsible for preserving the security of the information systems of various agencies, including their expertise and comprehension.

As Thailand moves toward a completely digital economy and culture, a highly qualified digital workforce is in high demand to support the expansion of society. On the other hand, according to the Ministry, even if there is a dearth of qualified employees, the development of advanced information technologies such as Blockchain technology is proceeding apace.

Meanwhile, OpenGov Asia early reported that General Prawit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and Chair of the DE Fund Executive Committee, has set the Digital Economy and Society Development Fund (DE Fund) direction for 2023, with the aim of boosting Thailand’s economic and social development capability using digital technology.

As a reference for future operations, the committee examined and approved the Long-Term Action Plan (B.E. 2023-2027), which contained the Fund’s Operational Plan and Budget for Fiscal Year 2023.

The committee cooperatively analysed the DE Fund’s performance and determined the course of operations for 2023 by developing criteria for all stakeholders to work together to operate the fund. Initiatives for digital development must be able to function within agreed-upon deadlines and scope while providing demonstrable results.
