Empowering Vietnam’s Digital Workforce

The National Innovation Centre (NIC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), operating under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), have unveiled a digital workforce platform.

The platform was launched through the Human Resources for Innovation – Startup Ecosystem (USAID WISE) programme. They also jointly organised a workshop titled “Future of Jobs in the Digital Economy”.

The online platform was developed by prominent experts in the IT industry. It aims to serve as an information system, offering insights into various career paths within the IT industry. It focuses on equipping aspiring professionals with the essential skills necessary to thrive in the industry. Digital Workforce, sponsored by USAID and MPI, is a series of activities to support Vietnam with its national strategy for the 4th Industrial Revolution by 2030.

The platform allows users to access detailed overviews of hundreds of positions in the IT industry. It offers information about distinct promotion paths and corresponding income levels. The platform also provides the required skills and certifications associated with each position, along with recommendations for prestigious training institutions in the industry. Additionally, users can stay updated with the latest news related to job opportunities and professional knowledge, providing diverse perspectives to assist young individuals in shaping their own career development journey.

Speaking at the event, NIC Director, Vu Quoc Huy, said that NIC has worked with three leading human resources companies in the country and collaborated with USAID WISE to build the digital human resource platform. It is one of the first platforms to provide detailed information about personnel in the field of ICT.

The platform aims to provide general knowledge about the job market, serving as a guide and setting a career development trend for young individuals in the future. By accessing this information, they can make informed decisions about their career paths. Additionally, employers can utilise the platform to adjust and optimise their workforce in response to fluctuations in the labour market. This ensures that labour resources are utilised efficiently, benefiting both employers and job seekers.

During the workshop, experts and speakers representing recruitment agencies and technology companies engaged in discussions on various critical topics, including the impact of new technologies on the job and labour markets, as well as the necessary preparations and adaptations required from the young workforce to meet these evolving needs and changes.

In the national digital transformation roadmap, the Prime Minister approved the project “Raising awareness, popularising skills and developing human resources for national digital transformation by 2025, with a vision to 2030”, which affirms the government’s attention to digital human resources in the coming period. It aims to increase awareness among the population, promote the acquisition of digital skills, and develop a strong pool of human resources capable of driving and sustaining the national digital transformation efforts.

Occupations relating to IT, high-tech, and supporting industries are employment groups with high recruitment demand, a recent report has shown. The 4th Industrial Revolution fueled the growth of the labour market and professions. Engineering technology is the most in-demand job of the future, accounting for 35% of the country’s total demand. Fields such as automation, automotive technology, electronics, graphic and industrial design, and environmental technology are also attracting a lot of employees.
