Vietnam Launches Smart Factory Development Project

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

A smart factory development collaboration project has been launched for the northern region between the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and a multinational electronics corporation. At the opening ceremony in Hanoi, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Do Thang Hai, said that smart plant development is crucial for Vietnamese manufacturing enterprises in the present day.

In line with the Central Party Committee’s Resolution No. 29 to advance industrialisation and modernisation, MoIT has been actively collaborating with multinational corporations and prominent foreign direct investment (FDI) companies in the country. The objective is to enhance the quality of local human resources and boost the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in the processing, manufacturing, and support industries.

Ongoing collaboration between MoIT and the private player in providing training for workers and experts, along with consultancy services for production improvement, has yielded encouraging outcomes for the industrial sector. These efforts have not only enabled domestic companies to seize development prospects but also facilitated their seamless integration into the global supply chain.

The company has invested in the country for several years and is dedicated to promoting the advancement of the local support industries through a range of supportive endeavors. An official noted that building upon the accomplishments achieved in bolstering the support industries in the previous seven years, the company remains committed to further enhancing cooperation in smart manufacturing. This focus aligns with the Vietnamese government’s objective of generating long-term high-value additions to the economy.

Through this project, Vietnamese businesses will enhance their competitiveness in line with global standards across all stages, ranging from development to production and sales. Moreover, numerous exceptional Vietnamese enterprises will gain increased prospects for integration into the global supply chains of prominent global conglomerates.

As per the agreement, the project’s support process involves identifying eligible businesses and providing consultations for smart factory development and post-project management. During the three-week theoretical training phase, the two sides will collaborate to select Vietnamese experts who have demonstrated exceptional performance in productivity and quality enhancement. They will undergo advanced training focused on smart factories.

During the practical phase, which spans nine weeks, experts and consultants will conduct surveys and assessments of the participating companies. They will work closely with these firms to enhance on-site operations, laying the groundwork for subsequent steps toward the formation of smart factories.

Based on the outcomes of on-site consultations, the experts will proceed to support the businesses in constructing their operational and post-project management systems. This will foster continuous improvement activities and periodic evaluations of manufacturing and IT enhancements even after the project’s completion.

Since 2015, the two sides have been working together to execute an improvement consultation programme, aimed at enhancing the competitive capacity of 379 Vietnamese businesses. This collaboration has also played a crucial role in training 406 experts in the support industries sector in Vietnam from 2018 to 2021.

Following the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two parties regarding their smart factory development cooperation project, 50 consultants were trained, and 26 businesses implementing smart factories in both the northern and southern regions received consultation and assistance for improvement in the previous year.
