Revolutionising Malaysia’s Automotive Landscape

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

A leading multinational electric automotive manufacturer has just unveiled its plans to venture into the flourishing Malaysian market. The strategic expansion comes as a direct response to the visionary Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Global Leaders initiative, thoughtfully introduced by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI).

This significant move is set to pave the way for cutting-edge electric vehicles in Malaysia, ushering in a new era of sustainable mobility.

The main highlights of the company’s operation in Malaysia will include:

  • Introduction of Cutting-edge Electric Vehicles: the automotive manufacturer is dedicated to bringing its advanced electric vehicle lineup to Malaysian consumers.
  • Extensive Charging Infrastructure: To address the critical need for charging infrastructure, the company will invest significantly in establishing a vast network of fast-charging and regular-charging stations strategically placed throughout Malaysia. This effort aims to provide electric vehicle owners with a seamless and convenient charging experience, fostering the widespread adoption of EVs in the country.
  • State-of-the-art Head Office and Service Centre: A modern head office and service centre will be set up in Cyberjaya, Selangor, serving as the central hub for corporate operations, marketing, training, customer support, and vehicle services. This facility will be equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and staffed by highly trained technicians to ensure prompt and reliable after-sales services for customers.
  • Experience Centres in Key Locations: The company plans to establish experience centres in major metropolitan areas across Malaysia. These centres will provide potential buyers with the opportunity to explore and experience the latest electric vehicle models firsthand. Knowledgeable sales representatives will be on hand to offer personalised assistance and insights into the advantages of electric mobility.

MITI’s Minister welcomed the company’s expansion into Malaysia’s tech market. The move aligns with the country’s push for sustainable tech and economic growth, attracting more high-paying tech jobs and fostering a greener future. This tech investment bolsters Malaysia’s pro-business image and sets the stage for further tech-driven growth and innovation in the country.

Between 2018 and March 2023, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) greenlit 58 projects valued at RM26.2 billion in the electric vehicle (EV) and related ecosystems. These investments cover a wide range of activities, such as EV assembly, manufacturing of EV parts, components, and charging infrastructure.

MIDA’s backing of these projects reflects the growing demand for sustainable transportation and contributes significantly to the progress of the EV sector in Malaysia. This support not only promotes economic growth but also generates employment opportunities while steering the nation towards a more environmentally friendly future.

With a strong dedication to technological advancement, sustainability, and customer satisfaction, the company is poised to revolutionise the Malaysian automotive market. Through its innovative tech solutions in electric vehicles and sustainable energy, the automotive company aims to make a significant contribution to Malaysia’s ambitious environmental target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. This aligns with the country’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

In line with Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) for 2021-2030, the nation aims to reach a minimum of 15% xEVs (electric vehicles) out of the total industry volume (TIV) by 2030. Additionally, the National Energy Policy (NEP) for 2022-2040 sets a target of 38% xEV penetration by 2040.

To support this endeavour, Malaysia plans to establish 10,000 charging facilities by 2025, comprising 9,000 alternating current (AC) units and 1,000 direct current (DC) units. The company’s innovative tech offerings and charging infrastructure play a pivotal role in realising these goals and shaping a sustainable tech-driven automotive landscape in the country.
