The Inno Space of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC)’s “Summer TechEd Fest,” organised and supported by various government bodies and organisations, was developed to promote TechEd and “Smart Campuses” while expanding the pool of I&T talent.

Over 90 TechEd workshops were offered at the HKPC Building, providing the education sector and the public with the latest TechEd solutions, fostering TechEd and “Smart Campuses” development, and enlarging the I&T talent pool.

HKPC, serving as a vital link between the Government, I&T, and the education sectors, has been actively championing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education to foster diverse talent development using advanced technologies.

Significant participation was observed from 36 STEAM education organisations and technology companies, with more than 2,000 educators and members of the public registering for various activities and workshops. This overwhelming response highlights the growing significance of TechEd development and the rising enthusiasm for innovative technology within the education, I&T sectors, and the general public.

The “Gemini Programme,” a collaborative effort between HKPC, the International Cooperation Center of China Aerospace of China National Space Administration, and the LPC Aerospace Technology Education Centre was also introduced. This unique initiative aims to provide young individuals in Hong Kong with valuable insights into the advancements of aerospace technology in the nation.

Through the “Gemini Programme,” students in Hong Kong can engage in educational activities focused on aerospace technology, fostering a deeper understanding of this field’s significance. Moreover, by partnering with the education sector, the programme endeavours to promote aerospace technology education across all schools, encouraging widespread interest in this domain.

A key objective of the programme is to facilitate knowledge exchange and mutual enrichment between youth from both regions. By encouraging the exchange of ideas and experiences, participants can broaden their horizons and enhance their understanding of aerospace technology on a global scale.

In addition, an executive panel was also featured which centred around “Integrating AI in Teaching & Learning.” Esteemed industry leaders and scholars were invited to share insights into the current state of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital literacy education in Hong Kong and worldwide. They also explored the evolving landscape of incorporating AI into teaching, learning, and assessment.

By shedding light on the impact of AI on future education, the executive panel aimed to equip the public with a deeper understanding of this transformative technology’s potential in shaping the educational landscape. In this way, the importance of aerospace technology and AI integration in education was pushed, creating a platform for knowledge-sharing and advancement within the field.

The Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government highlighted the country’s strong emphasis on I&T during the pre-recorded opening remarks at the ceremony. The ‘National 14th Five-Year Plan’ has outlined clear support for Hong Kong’s transformation into an international I&T centre. To achieve this vision, the HKSAR Government has put forth the ‘Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint,’ providing a definitive development path and strategic planning for the city’s I&T advancement.

Enlarging the I&T talent pool is a crucial aspect of promoting I&T development. Essential measures include fostering TechEd in primary and secondary schools, expanding I&T-related courses in universities, actively attracting top-notch Mainland and overseas I&T talent, and encouraging Hong Kong graduates studying abroad to return for local development.

The HKSAR Government will continue to strengthen collaboration with the I&T industry, tertiary institutions, primary and secondary schools, and professional organisations. Through optimised strategies, they aim to nurture, attract, and retain I&T talent, propelling Hong Kong forward as a prominent international I&T hub.

HKPC, in response to the Government’s ‘Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint,’ has been dedicated to promoting TechEd and talent development. Through partnerships with the education and I&T sectors, and STEAM educators, HKPC aims to equip students with FutureSkills for the ever-evolving I&T landscape. HKPC will continue to bridge education, I&T, and business sectors, promoting local TechEd and cultivating technology talent to propel Hong Kong towards becoming an international I&T centre.

Amid the global talent shortage, HKPC recognises the significance of nurturing and retaining local I&T talent. Alongside hosting TechEd activities, collaborations with different sectors, such as the ‘Youth Aerospace TechEd Programme’ with the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, aim to foster national aerospace technology development. HKPC also partners with the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education to spark interest in I&T among gifted students and cultivate more local talent. Additionally, HKPC Academy offers AI, cloud technology, and professional engineering certification courses recognized by the Reindustrialization and Technology Training Programme (RTTP) to empower working professionals with FutureSkills. By organizing various activities to boost FutureSkills, HKPC strives to expand the diverse pool of talent and attract young leaders to actively engage in Hong Kong’s I&T industry.
