A significant step in advancing collaborative academic development, knowledge exchanges, and joint research projects in the tech sector was taken today as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and a Malaysia-based management consulting services company formalised their strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

This signing solidified the commitment of both parties to engage in various areas of tech collaboration, including academic development and research enhancement, internship and industry attachment, professional programs and seminars, collaborative teaching activities, research and publication, and product commercialisation.

The ceremony witnessed the signing of the MoU by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of UTM and the Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of the management consulting services company.

Guests from the tech sector, including UTM’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), the Dean, Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying; the Chair of the Business Management Division, Department of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), and the Director of the Centre for Real Estate Studies (CRES) were witnesses to the signing.

In his speech, UTM’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) expressed his satisfaction in witnessing the commitment of the tech organisations to establish a closer collaboration in joint research programs, teaching, consultation, knowledge transfer, and community engagement. He emphasised the potential for scholarly excellence in asset and facilities management through this partnership.

Meanwhile, the Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of the company highlighted the need for UTM researchers’ expertise in structuring their approach towards new technology and identifying its potential for effective assets and facilities management. He conveyed the enthusiasm of both parties for the limitless possibilities that lie ahead and their full commitment to exploring additional avenues of cooperation for mutual benefit in the tech industry’s future.

The strategic partnership between these tech entities holds immense promise in advancing research, promoting academic excellence, and driving innovation in the field of tech-driven facilities management. Together, they aim to redefine the boundaries of tech-infused facilities management and set new standards of excellence, leaving a lasting impact on the industry and the community at large.

Leveraging the company’s two decades of experience as one of Malaysia’s premier tech-driven facilities management service providers, coupled with their commitment to adhering to international quality management standards, this collaboration is poised to substantially impact and transform the academic and tech industry landscapes.

This strategic partnership aligns with the Malaysian government’s vision for fostering research, technological advancement, and innovation in the country. Recognising the significance of tech-driven facilities management in various sectors, the government has launched several policies and programs to support such collaborations.

One notable initiative is the Malaysia Education Blueprint (Higher Education), which aims to enhance the quality and competitiveness of higher education institutions. It encourages universities and research centres to collaborate with industry partners, including tech organisations, to drive research and innovation in fields like facilities management.

Additionally, the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint accelerates the country’s digital transformation and provides support and funding for tech-driven projects, including those focused on facilities management solutions, to improve efficiency and sustainability.

Furthermore, the National Policy on Industry 4.0 promotes the integration of advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analytics in industries, creating opportunities for facilities management companies to optimise their operations.

The government’s various research grant schemes also play a vital role in encouraging research and development activities, allowing tech-driven facilities management companies to access funding for their innovative projects and solutions.

The MyDIGITAL Initiative focuses on accelerating digital infrastructure development and promoting digital skills among Malaysians, providing a conducive environment for tech-driven facilities management partnerships to thrive.

Moreover, the commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aligns with the emphasis on sustainability in facilities management, further supporting the partnership’s objectives.

Moreover, the government’s promotion of smart city initiatives recognises the role of tech-driven facilities management in creating efficient and sustainable smart cities, making it an area of focus for policy support.

With the Malaysian government’s support and initiatives in research, technological advancement, and sustainability, this strategic collaboration not only enhances research and academic excellence in the tech-driven facilities management domain but also contributes significantly to the nation’s growth and development goals.
