In a fresh collaboration, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) of the Philippines has joined forces with other government entities such as the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and a government-owned and controlled corporation, the John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) to establish the North Luzon Data Centre.

This strategic partnership signifies a significant leap toward a digitally empowered Philippines and underlines the nation’s commitment to providing innovative, efficient, and exceptional public services.

The North Luzon Data Centre, a key component of the DICT’s National Government Data Centre Project, will play a pivotal role in revolutionising the digital landscape of the Philippines. Spearheading this initiative, Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy envisions a future where every Filipino can harness the opportunities presented by the digital economy.

The primary focus of the North Luzon Data Centre will be to serve government entities in the region, fostering the adoption of e-governance systems and facilitating public transactions. A portion of this cutting-edge facility will also be allocated for the use of BCDA and JHMC, underscoring the collaborative spirit of this venture.

BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Joshua Bingcang recognises the ever-growing digital economy and the surging demand for cloud-based services in the Philippines. He emphasises the importance of strengthening the nation’s digital infrastructure and expanding its data centre capacity. As stewards of national development, BCDA stands ready to support DICT’s endeavours, striving to ensure that all Filipinos have access to fast and reliable digital services.

Allan Garcia, President and CEO of JHMC, echoes this sentiment, celebrating the historic partnership between DICT, BCDA, and JHMC. Their shared aspiration is to usher in a state-of-the-art government data centre that will elevate digital infrastructure, empower efficient public services, and herald a new era of technological progress for the benefit of every Filipino.

DICT has been actively forging partnerships with various government agencies and local government units, promoting the efficient delivery of public services and fostering the interoperability of government systems and applications.

As the Philippines continues to embrace digital transformation, the establishment of the North Luzon Data Centre represents a significant milestone. It embodies the nation’s determination to bridge the digital divide and provide citizens with access to advanced digital services.

With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and efficiency, this initiative promises to reshape the digital landscape and position the Philippines at the forefront of the global digital economy.

According to the DICT, the nation has recognised the importance of staying ahead in the digital race; and the North Luzon Data Centre is not just a data facility; it’s a symbol of progress, a testament to the power of partnerships, and a testament to the Philippines’ commitment to a digitally-driven future where opportunities are abundant, and services are accessible to all.

The department added that establishing data centres in the Philippines is pivotal for digital transformation and economic growth. The nation can bolster the delivery of digital services, enhance data security, and ensure data sovereignty.

In a disaster-prone region, these centres offer robust disaster recovery and business continuity solutions. Data centres also attract tech investments, stimulate the digital economy, and support government e-governance initiatives. By reducing latency, they improve user experiences, particularly for services like gaming and video streaming. Also, local data centres position the Philippines at the forefront of the digital age, promoting innovation, economic resilience, and efficient public services.
