A delegation led by the Chairman of the PolyU Council; the President of PolyU; the Executive Vice President, and the Vice President (Research and Innovation), visited Wuxi to engage in discussions about strengthening tech cooperation. They met with several officials from Wuxi High-tech District and Xinqiao District.

PolyU has become the first Hong Kong university to establish a tech research centre in Wuxi, focusing on three key areas: setting up a world-class tech research and innovation platform to conduct R&D in fields like aerospace, advanced manufacturing, biomedicine, artificial intelligence, new materials, and communication networks; creating an innovation results transformation and incubation hub to convert research outcomes into practical tech applications; and cultivating high-end tech talents by establishing research and education centres, launching engineering doctoral programs, and post-doctoral programs.

These initiatives will nurture engineers and tech entrepreneurs who can compete on the global stage. The Institute will also leverage PolyU’s international advantages to attract tech enterprises to Wuxi, facilitate tech industry exchanges, and expand international tech cooperation.

To support tech transformation, the Institute has signed collaboration agreements with ten local high-tech tech companies, offering tech services using PolyU’s expertise and tech innovations.

According to the Chairman of the PolyU Council, the University will leverage its strengths in technology expertise, innovation, and international collaboration to propel technological innovation and research services, foster the transformation and application of technological achievements, and enhance the efficiency of technology industries.

Through their collaboration, they aimed to harness the synergies of ‘government, industry, academia, and technology research’ to advance technological innovation in both Wuxi and Hong Kong, making a substantial contribution to the national technological innovation landscape.

During their visit, the PolyU delegation introduced the tech-centric initiatives, research directions in tech, and the tech-industry-research accomplishments. They outlined the tech-focused future direction and talent development goals of the Institute in Wuxi.

The Institute will continue to work closely with Wuxi’s higher education institutions, tech companies, and organisations to establish an innovation ecosystem centred on tech, making a substantial contribution to the high-quality development of Wuxi, the Greater Bay Area, and the nation.

OpenGov Asia earlier reported that the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the People’s Government of Luyang District, Hefei City, have formalised a partnership to establish “The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Hefei Institute of Technology Innovation”. This collaborative venture is poised to become a nexus of cutting-edge technological advancement, fostering profound industry-academic research cooperation and the cultivation of exceptional talents.

This institute will spearhead a series of projects with a specific focus on biomedical sensing precision technology and aerospace information. By concentrating on these fields, it aims to propel scientific research development, facilitate academic exchanges, nurture future experts, and facilitate the transfer of knowledge.

Hefei City, situated within one of the nation’s key development hubs, is home to the first national laboratories and boasts one of the highest concentrations of scientific installations in the country. In addition to the institute’s core mission, there’s a commitment to building sustainable startup incubation centres to drive innovation within emerging industries. Local economic development needs will be seamlessly integrated into the research agenda, with a keen emphasis on developing critical core technologies and promoting their practical applications.
