Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and China Resources Research Institute of Science and Technology Co. Limited (CRRIST) formalised a strategic collaboration through a research and development agreement to establish the CR-BU Joint Innovation Centre on Smart Chinese Medicine. This collaboration aims to spearhead advancements in Chinese medicine and foster the creation of an innovative Chronic Disease Management System.
The Interim Chief Innovation Officer of HKBU, and the Vice President of CR Enterprise signed the agreement. The ceremony took place during the plaque unveiling of the CR-BU Joint Innovation Centre on Smart Chinese Medicine at the HKBU campus. Dignitaries from HKBU, the HKSAR government and the CRRIST were present.
The President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU stated that the Central Government’s strong focus on advancing Chinese medicine is underscored by the university’s research accomplishments, illustrating its role in fostering Hong Kong’s integration into the national development plan.
The university has actively contributed to the preservation and innovation of Chinese medicine, as well as facilitating the standardisation and internationalisation of this traditional practice. The creation of the CR-BU Joint Innovation Centre on Smart Chinese Medicine is seen as a substantial stride in collective endeavours to drive the development of Chinese medicine.
The Chairman of China Resources Group stated that establishing the CR-BU Joint Innovation Centre on Smart Chinese Medicine is poised to strengthen the collaboration between the two entities, fostering the development, standardisation, and internationalisation of smart Chinese medicine.
It will additionally motivate both parties to engage in innovative research and applications, particularly in the realms of chronic disease management, artificial intelligence, and big data within the field of Chinese medicine. The collaboration aims to jointly explore novel models and directions for smart Chinese medicine, leveraging the diverse industrial strengths of CR Group alongside the high-level Chinese medicine resources of HKBU.
The collaboration agreement delineates a framework for closer cooperation, addressing aspects such as the allocation of intellectual property, contributions, and resources. It serves as the foundation for promoting the modernisation and scientific development of Chinese medicine.
Positioned as a hub for cutting-edge research, innovation, and collaboration in Chinese medicine, the CR-BU Joint Innovation Centre on Smart Chinese Medicine is set to embark on its inaugural project—a groundbreaking Chronic Disease Management System.
This system will enable the comprehensive tracking of a patient’s medical journey, from diagnosis to treatment, and will feature extended functions for follow-up medical care and long-term health management, crucial for monitoring chronic diseases.
The envisioned system is poised to empower Chinese medicine practitioners with comprehensive and systematic patient medical histories, enabling them to formulate more informed treatment plans based on a deeper understanding of each patient’s health records. Simultaneously, patients will better understand their treatment condition and progress, facilitating informed medical decisions.
Beyond its immediate applications, the Chronic Disease Management System holds the potential to expedite scientific discoveries. Researchers stand to benefit from the invaluable pool of tracked data provided by the system, serving as a solid foundation for research endeavours, including the analysis of overall treatment effectiveness and the identification of responses to Chinese medicine interventions.
