The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) convened “ForeSight 2024,” drawing almost 400 attendees, comprising government officials, business leaders, and media representatives, with a focus on examining technology’s crucial role in shaping the future business landscape and fostering innovation across diverse sectors.

Under the umbrella theme of “Tech for Tomorrow,” digital gurus convened for the “ForeSight Tech Leaders Panel” to delve into the significance of technological advancements and their strategic deployment for both large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The discussions revolved around cutting-edge technologies, digital transformation, and the pivotal role of innovation in ensuring sustainable growth in 2024.

The “TechHub 2024” initiative was launched, an innovative platform designed by HKPC to provide comprehensive support to businesses for their digital transformation journey. The platform aims to serve as a one-stop destination for industry players to access the latest technological tools, knowledge-sharing sessions, and collaborative opportunities, fostering a dynamic tech ecosystem for enterprises of all sizes.

With the overarching goal of positioning Hong Kong as a leading tech hub, HKPC unveiled its ambitious plan to accelerate the city’s digital transformation. The initiative is aligned with the government’s vision to enhance Hong Kong’s technological infrastructure and competitiveness on the global stage. “TechHub 2024” is poised to play a pivotal role in equipping businesses with the necessary tools and knowledge to thrive in an increasingly digital-centric business environment.

To address the urgent need for environmental sustainability and combat climate change, HKPC outlined its commitment to reducing Hong Kong’s carbon emissions by half by 2035, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. The “TechHub 2024” initiative will play a crucial role in supporting businesses in adopting eco-friendly technologies and practices, aligning with the city’s broader sustainability goals.

Government officials, the Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, HKSAR, emphasised the importance of collaboration between the government, financial regulators, and industries to propel Hong Kong toward becoming a regional tech and innovation powerhouse. The government’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to tech-driven growth and innovation was highlighted.

The Executive Director of HKPC emphasised the integral role of technology in today’s business landscape. Recognising SMEs’ challenges in their tech adoption journey, HKPC introduced “TechHub 2024” as a dedicated platform to provide quality services, create value for SMEs, and collaborate on tech initiatives. HKPC’s focus on new industrialisation across traditional and emerging industries underscores its commitment to green technologies and long-term economic development.

With the launch of “TechHub 2024,” HKPC spearheads efforts to position the city as a global tech hub, driving innovation, sustainability, and economic development through technology. The collaboration between government, industry leaders, and SMEs underscores the collective commitment to navigating the tech landscape in 2024 and beyond.

In alignment with Hong Kong’s sustainability goals and to combat global warming and achieve carbon neutrality, researchers from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) unveiled a groundbreaking electroreduction system capable of converting carbon dioxide (CO2) into ethylene, OpenGov Asia reported earlier.

The heart of the innovation lies in the APMA system, a term coined by the research team, where ‘A’ stands for anion-exchange membrane (AEM), ‘P’ represents the proton-exchange membrane (PEM), and ‘MA’ indicates the resulting membrane assembly. Prof. Lau’s ingenious approach involves dispensing with the alkali-metal electrolyte, instead using pure water as a metal-free anolyte. This strategic choice prevents the formation of carbonates and salt deposition, enhancing the stability of ethylene production.
