In a major move towards modernising and streamlining India’s maritime landscape, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, is poised to introduce two cutting-edge digital modules – the Maritime Single Window (MSW) and the Mercantile Maritime Department (MMD) – on the Sagar Setu (NLP-M) platform. This launch ceremony, scheduled for tomorrow, symbolises a significant stride towards a more efficient and technologically advanced maritime sector in the country.
The Maritime Single Window (MSW) module, integrated into the Sagar Setu (NLP-M) platform, serves as a digital hub facilitating the electronic submission, processing, and exchange of maritime-related information and documents among key stakeholders.
This includes seamless collaboration between government authorities, port operators, and entities involved in international maritime trade. The successful testing of this module with the Directorate General of Shipping, along with Shipping Agents, Trade Associations, and Port Officials of major ports, underscores its transformative potential in revolutionising the management of maritime data and processes.
Complementing this, the Mercantile Maritime Department (MMD) module on the Sagar Setu (NLP-M) platform focuses on providing vital information concerning vessel detention and release status. This digital platform enhances the efficiency of the Mercantile Maritime Department by offering a streamlined process for sharing vessel survey information within the Sagar Setu platform.
The integration of these modules not only signifies a significant leap in technological innovation but also positions India’s maritime operations on a trajectory towards enhanced transparency, efficiency, and collaboration.
These pioneering modules represent a broader digital initiative undertaken by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways to propel the maritime sector into a future characterised by advanced technology and seamless connectivity.
By fostering digitalisation within maritime operations, the Ministry aims to not only improve efficiency and transparency but also empower stakeholders to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by the evolving global maritime landscape.
The launch of the MSW and MMD modules on the Sagar Setu platform marks a monumental step towards realising this vision of a digitally transformed and globally competitive Indian maritime sector.
In March last year, Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal launched the app version of the National Logistics Portal (Marine) ‘Sagar-Setu,’ featuring a range of functionalities like a Login Module, Service Catalogue, Common Application Format, and Track & Trace.
The app offers real-time information on various activities, including vessel-related details, gate information, and container transactions, allowing easier access for importers, exporters, and customs brokers. Shri Sonowal emphasised the app’s role in enhancing data mobility, facilitating approvals, and enabling efficient monitoring for port officials and stakeholders.
