Amid a rapidly evolving global landscape, Vietnam stands at the forefront of a digital revolution, poised to capitalise on the transformative potential of technology to drive economic growth and societal advancement. At the helm of this dynamic transition is Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, who emphasises the critical importance of joint collaboration to accelerate the nation’s digital transformation agenda.

In the national vision, collaboration emerges as the linchpin for success in Vietnam’s digital journey. Recognising the pivotal role of the digital economy in propelling economic prosperity, he underscores the need for a concerted effort among stakeholders to harness technology as a catalyst for change. This collaborative approach signifies a departure from traditional directives, with the ministry mobilising specialised teams comprising network operations and digital technology firms to spearhead transformation initiatives across diverse sectors.

The overarching mission for Vietnam’s digital technology industry is clear: to leverage digital innovations to propel the nation towards high-income status by 2045. This ambitious goal necessitates a multifaceted strategy that encompasses technology mastery, innovation, and indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

Minister Hung underscores the imperative for Vietnam to seize the opportunities presented by the digital revolution, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) development, which he identifies as a focal point for the nation’s digital transformation efforts.

As Vietnam makes significant progress in digital innovation, it has garnered recognition on a global scale. The World Intellectual Property Organisation’s ranking of Vietnam in the innovation index reflects the nation’s growing prowess and influence in the digital arena. However, with promise comes challenges, and the government is keenly aware of the need to address human resource constraints and institutional frameworks to ensure the seamless execution of digital initiatives.

To enhance efficiency and foster inclusive growth, the ministry has launched initiatives such as the Lang So (Digital Village) portal, aimed at empowering individuals with digital literacy and skills. This initiative seeks to democratise access to digital resources, enabling citizens to harness the transformative power of technology in their daily lives and businesses.

In 2023, Vietnam embarked on a transformative journey in its technological landscape, driven by a resolute dedication to innovation and strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing its intellectual and industrial capabilities. Last year’s digital achievements exemplify the country’s vision and efforts, notably marked by the issuance of Resolution No.27-NQ/TW during the eighth session of the 13th Party Central Committee, setting ambitious targets for fostering a dynamic cadre of intellectuals by 2030. This resolution, underscoring both quantity and quality, laid the groundwork for Vietnam to cultivate top-tier experts and scientists in pivotal and emerging fields, essential for propelling the nation towards modernisation and industrialisation.

Vietnam’s digital economy is on a trajectory of robust growth, poised to reach US$ 45 billion by 2025, driven by burgeoning sectors such as e-commerce and online travel. This growth trajectory positions Vietnam as the fastest-growing digital economy in Southeast Asia for the second consecutive year, according to a joint report.

As Vietnam charts its course towards digital prosperity, collaborative endeavours and concerted efforts will be indispensable in unlocking the nation’s digital potential. Minister Hung’s call for collaboration underscores the collective resolve to embrace technology as a force for positive change, ensuring that every individual, community, and enterprise becomes a source of inspiration in the transformative journey towards a digital future.

In essence, Vietnam’s pursuit of digital transformation is not merely a technological endeavour but a societal imperative – a shared vision that demands collective action and unwavering commitment to drive meaningful change in the digital age. With collaboration as its cornerstone, there country is poised to navigate the complexities of the digital landscape, ushering in a new era of innovation, prosperity, and inclusivity for all. It envisions its digital standing to be not only robust by 2045 but also positioned at the forefront in the region, nearing the standards observed in developed countries.
