Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s recent decision to establish the National Council for Science, Technology, and Innovation underscores Vietnam’s commitment to advancing its scientific and technological capabilities. Led by the Prime Minister, with Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang as the standing Vice Chairman and the Minister of Science and Technology as Vice Chairman, the council brings together key leaders from various ministries and institutions to drive forward the country’s innovation agenda.

Comprising representatives from ministries such as Planning and Investment, Finance, Home Affairs, Education and Training, Information and Communications, Industry and Trade, Agriculture and Rural Development, Public Security, National Defence, and the Government Office, the council boasts a diverse range of expertise.

Additionally, leaders from academic institutions including the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University – Hanoi, and Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, along with experts and scientists, contribute their insights to the council’s deliberations.

As an inter-sectorial organisation, the council’s mandate extends beyond mere advisory functions. It is tasked with studying, directing, and coordinating the formulation and implementation of policies, strategies, and mechanisms aimed at fostering science, technology, and innovation across the nation.

By promoting collaboration and coordination among ministries, provincial administrations, and academic institutions, the council seeks to drive socio-economic development, bolster national security, and facilitate Vietnam’s integration into the global innovation ecosystem.

With its focus on leveraging science, technology, and innovation to address key socio-economic challenges, the National Council for Science, Technology, and Innovation is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping Vietnam’s future trajectory. In harnessing the collective expertise and resources of government agencies, academic institutions, and industry partners, the council aims to propel Vietnam towards becoming a leading player in the global innovation landscape.

Vietnam is embracing digital and technological innovation as a key driver of economic growth and societal advancement. With a rapidly expanding digital economy, the country is keen to harness the power of technology to enhance efficiency, improve service delivery, and create new opportunities for its citizens.

By fostering a conducive environment for innovation, investing in digital infrastructure, and nurturing a skilled workforce, Vietnam aims to accelerate its digital transformation journey. From e-government initiatives to the promotion of digital startups and entrepreneurship, it is committed to leveraging technology to improve the lives of its citizens, drive inclusive growth, and position itself as a dynamic player in the global digital landscape.

Amid a rapidly changing global landscape, Vietnam is leading the charge in a digital revolution, poised to harness the transformative power of technology for economic growth and societal progress. The Minister of Information and Communications, Nguyen Manh Hung, plays a pivotal role in steering this transition, emphasising the crucial need for collaborative efforts to propel the nation’s digital transformation agenda forward.

Collaboration emerges as the cornerstone of Vietnam’s vision for digital advancement, with a recognition of the pivotal role the digital economy plays in driving economic prosperity. Minister Hung stresses the importance of a united approach among stakeholders to leverage technology as a driving force for change. Departing from traditional directives, the ministry mobilises specialised teams comprising network operations and digital technology firms to lead transformation initiatives across various sectors.

Underscoring the critical significance of seizing opportunities within the digital revolution, there is a particular emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) development. Recognised as a pivotal aspect of Vietnam’s digital transformation endeavours, AI holds immense potential to spur innovation and position Vietnam as a frontrunner in the realm of technology.

Ultimately, the primary objective for Vietnam’s digital technology industry is evident: to elevate the nation to high-income status by 2045 through strategic utilisation of digital innovations. This ambitious aim requires a holistic approach involving mastery of technology, fostering innovation, and nurturing indigenous manufacturing capabilities.
