GoWhere: Empowering Singaporeans through Crisis and Beyond

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In recent times, the digital landscape has become increasingly vital in disseminating crucial information and services, particularly in navigating the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Among the notable platforms facilitating this journey is GoWhere, recognisable by its distinct URL gowhere.gov.sg/. Developed to provide intuitive location-based search capabilities for Government campaigns, services, and information, GoWhere has played a pivotal role in ensuring accessibility and awareness among Singaporeans.

Throughout the pandemic, GoWhere emerged as a beacon of reliable information, aiding citizens in essential endeavours such as locating vaccination centres through VaccineGoWhere and acquiring ART test kits via ARTGoWhere.

However, the platform’s utility extends far beyond crisis management, with post-pandemic initiatives catering to the diverse needs and aspirations of the Singaporean populace.

Supporting Heartland Merchants: CDC Vouchers

In response to economic strains exacerbated by the pandemic, the Singaporean government introduced the Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers scheme in 2022. These vouchers not only assist heartland merchants but also alleviate household expenses for Singaporean residents.

Recognising the significance of this initiative, the GoWhere team swiftly rolled out CDCVouchersGoWhere, simplifying the process for citizens to identify participating merchants and utilise their vouchers effectively.

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles: Healthier SG

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Health (MOH), Healthier SG embodies a national commitment to preventive healthcare. By empowering individuals to proactively manage their well-being and adopt healthier lifestyles, this initiative aims to curb the prevalence of chronic diseases. In support of Healthier SG, HealthierSGEventsGoWhere serves as a centralised hub for community-centric health activities, spanning from yoga sessions to K-pop-inspired workouts, fostering a culture of holistic wellness and social connectivity.

Building Resilience: Exercise SG Ready

In commemorating the 40th anniversary of Total Defence, Exercise SG Ready emerged as a cornerstone in fortifying Singapore’s resilience against crises and disruptions. By simulating various scenarios encompassing power outages, food shortages, and digital disruptions, participating organisations attempted to enhance preparedness and response capabilities. SGReadyGoWhere facilitated public engagement by furnishing comprehensive information regarding the exercise schedule, disruption details, and Civil Defence shelter locations, thereby bolstering community readiness and cohesion.

Streamlining Operations: DIYGoWhere Initiative

Despite its commendable contributions, the conventional approach to managing GoWhere campaigns proved labour-intensive and time-consuming. Recognising the need for a more agile and user-centric framework, the GoWhere team pioneered the DIYGoWhere initiative. This ground-up initiative empowers business users and agencies to autonomously update existing campaign sites and even create new ones, thereby expediting the dissemination of critical information while alleviating coordination burdens.

Through DIYGoWhere, stakeholders gain unprecedented control over their campaigns, significantly reducing turnaround times and streamlining coordination efforts. Moreover, the platform incorporates features such as content management systems, translation request trackers, and user management functionalities, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for all parties involved.

Unlocking the Potential of GoWhere

From navigating vaccination drives to fostering community resilience, GoWhere has emerged as a linchpin in Singapore’s digital ecosystem. As the nation strides towards a future characterised by innovation and inclusivity, the implementation of DIYGoWhere promises to unlock new possibilities, empowering agencies and businesses to harness the full potential of the platform in serving the needs of the populace.

GoWhere epitomises the convergence of technology and public service, transcending conventional paradigms to deliver tangible benefits to Singaporeans. With DIYGoWhere at its helm, the platform stands poised to usher in a new era of accessibility, efficiency, and empowerment, catalysing positive change and resilience in the face of uncertainty.
