Vietnam: Navigating an Evolving Digital Landscape

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In a landmark online meeting convened by the municipal steering committee for the “Vietnamese people prioritise Vietnamese goods” campaign and a newspaper, Hanoi’s business community showcased its resilience and adaptability amidst the burgeoning digital era, particularly through the dynamic growth of e-commerce and live-streaming platforms.

Nguyen The Hiep, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, highlighted the remarkable rise of livestreaming in Vietnam, with approximately 2.5 million sessions occurring each month.

According to Hiep, live streaming has empowered enterprises to embrace modern distribution strategies, expand their customer base, and thrive in a fiercely competitive market environment.

Livestreaming has emerged as a transformative medium where sellers engage directly with buyers in real-time video, revolutionising traditional sales channels. This approach not only facilitates immediate customer interaction but also accelerates the purchasing process and amplifies product visibility.

Key advantages of livestreaming include its capacity to offer exclusive promotions, collaborate with influencers, and leverage multiple social media platforms and e-commerce giants. However, alongside these opportunities, the Hanoi Department of Market Surveillance cautioned about the proliferation of counterfeit and illicit goods, which poses risks to consumer confidence and market integrity.

During the meeting, stakeholders deliberated on strategies to bolster support for businesses, particularly startups and retailers participating in the “One Commune-One Product” programme, to navigate these challenges effectively and optimise their market reach. Discussions also centred on enhancing regulatory frameworks to combat counterfeit goods and strengthen oversight in the online marketplace, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts among governmental bodies and industry stakeholders.

In line with its digital ambitions, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s digital transformation landscape reached new heights with the introduction of nearly 100 homegrown AI solutions at a conference. Organised by the HCM City Centre for Digital Transformation (DX Centre) in collaboration with the Vietnam IT Outsourcing Alliance (VNITO) and industry partners, the event showcased a diverse array of AI innovations designed to enhance customer experiences and streamline operations across various sectors.

Phan Phuong Tung, Director of DX Centre, emphasised the strategic significance of these AI solutions in driving business innovation and efficiency. The showcased technologies encompassed generative AI, smart cameras, data analytics and prediction models, robotic process automation, and more, tailored to meet the specific needs of sectors including e-commerce, retail, finance, banking, insurance, information security, education, healthcare, agriculture, services, and manufacturing.

The conference served as a platform for domestic and international experts to exchange insights on AI integration roadmaps, implementation methodologies, data strategy best practices, and cost-effective deployment strategies. With the global AI market poised for exponential growth, participants underscored the imperative of robust data management frameworks to maximise the efficacy and long-term value of AI investments.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasised Vietnam’s commitment to innovation-driven economic growth amid globalisation, focusing on advancing technology such as digital, green, and circular economies, along with AI, semiconductors, and hydrogen technologies. These initiatives are supported by substantial investments in infrastructure and human capital development to foster high-quality talent.

Vietnam’s proactive adoption of digital technologies in e-commerce and AI reflects its commitment to fostering inclusive economic growth and enhancing business competitiveness in the global arena. By harnessing the transformative power of live streaming and AI, Vietnamese enterprises are poised to unlock new opportunities, drive operational efficiencies, and chart a sustainable path towards digital leadership.

Vietnam’s strategic embrace of digital innovation in e-commerce and AI not only positions the country at the forefront of technological advancement but also reinforces its role as a dynamic player in the global digital economy.
