Such platforms provide a valuable opportunity for experts and business leaders to exchange experiences and insights from both domestic and international practices. This collaborative approach is crucial for identifying solutions to challenges and generating momentum for Vietnam’s digital transformation efforts.

It was underscored that the development of digital platforms is crucial for speeding up digital transformation. This initiative is in line with the core goals of Vietnam’s National Digital Transformation Programme, which seeks to lower costs and improve efficiency across multiple sectors.

It was recognised that international cooperation is essential for driving digital transformation, particularly in advancing societal progress. The need for collaboration between Vietnamese organisations and global technology companies was emphasised to support the research and development of innovative technologies and business models within the country.

The digital economy encompasses all economic activities leveraging technology and data, utilising the digital environment as a primary operational space, and employing information and telecommunications technology to boost productivity, innovate business models, and optimise economic structures.

Vietnam aims for its digital economy to contribute 20% of GDP by 2025 and 30% by 2030. By the end of the decade, it aspires to rank among the top 30 countries in information technology and innovation competitiveness.

To realise these ambitious goals, the role of 5G technology is pivotal. The Head of the Digital Transformation Department at a telecommunications corporation asserted that the essence of digital transformation lies in enhancing business efficiency and productivity. He explained that it involves streamlining processes across all departments to eliminate non-value-adding tasks.

“Digital transformation is not merely the application of digital technology; it represents a shift towards advanced, modern production methods,” he elaborated.

The President of another global telecom giant highlighted 5G’s transformative potential across multiple industries. She asserted that 5G will play a crucial role in advancing Industry 4.0, attracting foreign investment, and driving economic growth in Vietnam.

Furthermore, the rollout of private 5G networks will not only encourage innovation and reduce costs for businesses but also create new revenue streams for telecom operators. She reiterated that 5G is vital to achieving the goal of a digital economy contributing 20% to GDP by 2025.

Hoang Viet Tien, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association, highlighted the evolution of Vietnam’s internet landscape during its digital transformation. He pointed out that the rapid development of artificial intelligence in the coming years will further enhance this transformation.

“For successful digital transformation, collaboration among three key stakeholders – managers, network operators and solution providers, and end users – is essential. End users must receive adequate training, while solution and infrastructure providers need to offer user-friendly options. Additionally, state management agencies should issue clear guidelines and regulations,” Tien stressed.

Experts agreed that establishing a robust digital infrastructure is fundamental to supporting Vietnam’s digital transformation. This includes building high-quality broadband infrastructure nationwide, re-planning frequency bands, rapidly commercialising 5G mobile networks, and expanding both regional and international internet connections.

Developing undersea fibre optic cables will also play a critical role in positioning Vietnam as a regional connectivity hub, alongside advancing the Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure. This investment will boost the country’s internet capacity and reliability, enabling faster data transfer. Improved digital infrastructure will help Vietnam attract investment and enhance its competitiveness in the global digital economy.

As Vietnam continues to invest in its digital future, the vital importance of 5G technology in driving the nation’s economic development and transformation becomes increasingly clear.
