India is keenly focused on empowering its citizens to actively participate in and benefit from the digital transformation sweeping across various sectors. Recognising the immense potential of technology to drive economic growth and societal advancement, the government is investing in skill development initiatives and educational programmes aimed at enhancing digital literacy and accessibility.
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has launched a training initiative in collaboration with an online food ordering and delivery company, supporting India’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision. This initiative aims to enhance employment opportunities in the logistics, food delivery, and quick commerce sectors by providing a range of training, internships and job opportunities, focusing on roles in restaurant operations and retail management.
By integrating with the Skill India Digital Hub, the initiative plans to benefit approximately 2.4 lakh delivery partners and restaurant staff by offering access to online skill development courses and certifications. The Minister of State for MSDE highlighted the logistics sector’s importance for national development, underscoring the need for effective skilling systems.
It aims to recruit 3,000 for Instamart operations and provide advanced training for 200 senior roles, while also leveraging employee volunteering to develop training modules on topics like AI and marketing.
Supported by various organisations and institutes, MSDE’s initiative aims to create a skilled workforce ready to meet the demands of the evolving job market, marking a significant step towards achieving a ‘Skilled India’.
India is enhancing its technological capabilities and inclusivity, particularly for women, through two key initiatives. The CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research has partnered with Gurugram University to improve science communication and will host a conference on Traditional Knowledge in November 2024.
Concurrently, the Women in Space Leadership Programme (WiSLP) has been launched by the Department of Science and Technology with the British Council to empower early-career women in space sciences. These efforts underline India’s commitment to gender equity and societal progress in STEM fields.
