The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) has entered into a strategic partnership with a leading company in the Indian agriculture drone ecosystem to co-develop advanced agricultural drones. This collaboration is set to address the myriad challenges faced by large-scale landholders in India, Australia, Austria, and various European nations. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, the partnership aims to significantly enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability, ushering in a new era of agricultural innovation.
The partnership was formalised through an MoU signed by Professor Tarun Gupta, Dean of Research and Development at IIT Kanpur, and the Founder and Chairman of the partnering company. This marks the start of a collaboration integrating pioneering research with practical agricultural applications, showcasing a strong commitment to advancing global agriculture through technology.
Under this partnership, IIT Kanpur’s Spin laboratory, led by Professor Ketan Rajawat, will conduct joint research to develop advanced drones for agricultural challenges like seed broadcasting, agrochemical spraying, and crop monitoring. Professor Tarun Gupta emphasised the cost-effectiveness, versatility, and transformative potential of drone technology in agriculture.

To further bolster research and development efforts, the partnering company will establish a dedicated R&D lab within Technopark@iitk, IIT Kanpur’s renowned research and technology park. Professor Amarendra Singh, Professor-in-Charge of Technopark@iitk, emphasised the necessity of such an environment to drive meaningful advancements.
