Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur Launches AI/ML Course

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-Kanpur) has launched a professional certificate course for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The programme will cover a variety of technologies, such as NLTK, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn, Flask, OpenCV, E 2, Midjourney, Kubernetes, and Django.

The course curriculum consists of several key components, including an induction session for a professional certification course in AI and ML and foundations in mathematics and essential statistics, along with a programming refresher.

It also explores applied data science using Python, core courses in ML, an in-depth exploration of deep learning with Keras and TensorFlow, and an introduction to the essentials of GenAI, prompt engineering, and ChatGPT.

The course will include live masterclasses conducted by IIT-Kanpur faculty. Students will be able to hone their skills through more than 25 hands-on projects and can also select their preferred capstone projects. The programme will also offer regular classes conducted by distinguished industry experts who will assist students in strengthening their resumes.

Additionally, students will benefit from mock interview sessions designed to help them excel in tackling challenging technical questions. When they finish the course, graduates will be awarded a certificate of completion from the Electronics and ICT Academy at IIT-Kanpur.

IIT-Kanpur offers a diverse range of courses in emerging technologies, computer sciences, entrepreneurship, business, and more. These courses are carefully curated and taught by industry experts with extensive significant experience in the field and a profound understanding of their respective subject matter.

Recently, IIT-Kanpur announced another course, an eMasters Degree in Renewable Energy and e-Mobility, slated to begin in January 2024. It is designed to be pursued without interrupting one’s professional career, offering the added benefit of flexibility to complete the programme within 1 to 3 years. Candidates do not need to take the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) entrance exam to apply.

It is anticipated that the course will help individuals harness the opportunities presented as the world accelerates its transition away from fossil fuels, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and address climate change.

The programme will expose students to the technological aspects of the country’s green transition, including the generation of power from sources such as photovoltaics, wind, batteries, hydrogen, and the rapidly expanding field of electric vehicles (EVs).

The course has been described as industry-relevant. It offers a high-impact learning experience, which includes live interactive weekend classes taught by experts from IIT-Kanpur and self-paced learning. Participants will also have exclusive access to IIT-Kanpur’s incubation cell and a vast alumni network. The programme’s 60-credit curriculum enables seamless credit transfers for those pursuing further education opportunities, such as MTech and PhD courses at the Institute.

The government has been advocating for digital upskilling and has initiated several digital literacy initiatives, in addition to collaborating with industry stakeholders, to accomplish this goal. In September, the Ministry of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship inked eight memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with a leading private tech company to train India’s youth in emerging technologies.

As OpenGov Asia reported, within this partnership, educational curricula will be developed to instruct students at different educational levels, including primary, secondary, and vocational education. The courses will cover AI, including generative AI, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and skills for professional development.
