Indonesia – Singapore TVET Upskilling for Industry 4.0

Indonesia and Singapore are renewing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Indonesia and Singapore: Paving the Way for Industry 4.0) to facilitate a faster and more effective digital shift in the manufacturing sector. Through the Industrial Human Resource Development Agency (BPSDMI), the Ministry of Industry (Ministry of Industry) will continue to provide various upskilling courses to cultivate talented human resources, particularly in mastering industrial technology 4.0, to boost productivity and competitiveness.

“Participants in Industry Transformation 4.0 Education and Training learn about the implementation and assessment of a Link and Match curriculum tailored to industry needs using INDI 4.0 tools,” Masrokhan, the Head of the BPSDMI Ministry of Industry, said.

The Institute of Technical Education Services (ITEES), a Singaporean subsidiary postsecondary education institution under the Ministry of Education, hosts the TVET with assistance from the Temasek Foundation. The TVET digitisation programme will run for another five years to continue bolstering the growth of vocational education programmes and raise the standard of vocational education in Indonesia.

Representatives from 51 Vocational High Schools (SMK) across Indonesia participated in the training exercises co-sponsored by the Indonesian Ministries of Industry and Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). School leaders, educators, and aides all took part in the programme.

Participants gained an understanding of the role that Industry 4.0 plays in Singapore’s higher education system through this programme. In addition, participants in these training events share insights and lessons learned on integrating Industry 4.0 into their institutions’ educational infrastructures.

They also learn to use the same tools that Singapore’s SIRI 4.0 and Indonesia’s INDI 4.0 use. Students in Singapore’s higher education institutions gained insight into integrating Industry 4.0 through an assessment conducted with the SIRI 4.0 tool.

“Participants in Industry Transformation 4.0 Education and Training learn about the implementation and assessment of a Link and Match curriculum tailored to industry needs using INDI 4.0 tools,” Masrokhan elaborated.

The Ministry of Education previously organised the Leaders Training Workshop (LTW) and the Post-Training Sharing Workshop (PSW) in 2022 as part of the Industry Transformation 4.0 Education and Training project. Masrokhan also disclosed that this event was part of BPSDMI’s commitment to constantly support HR development and link and match programmes with businesses since 2016.

The manufacturing industry that Indonesia owns has started the process of digital transformation that would lead them to Industry 4.0. Recently, the government-owned fertiliser factory PT Petrokimia Gresik unveiled four digital breakthroughs to the public. These innovations were referred to as Human Capital Development (HCDev), Petrokimia Gresik Port Information System (Petroport), System Scheduling Truck Online (SISTRO), and Petro Balancing.

Human Capital Development (HCDev) is a digital administration platform connected with the other digital learning platforms that Petrokimia Gresik already possesses. These digital learning platforms include Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and 360 Plant Facility Learning.

On the other hand, the virtual reality (VR) Learning platform is an interactive training innovation that uses VR technology. VR Learning is a training facility designed for Petrokimia Gresik’s new employees through an OJT (On Job Training) time.

In addition, Bio Farma, which acts as a holding company for the pharmaceuticals produced by the Indonesian government, presented two digital inventions known as Medtrack and Medwell. Digitising the Medtrack system has helped Bio Farma successfully distribute over 400 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, tracked its delivery in real-time to all regions in Indonesia, and confirmed that vaccination supplies distributed to the public are authentic. In the meantime, Medwell is a comprehensive digital health platform developed by the State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) in response to the day-to-day requirements of individuals.
