RMIT and CDI Co-Launch Conversational AI Course

Engaging with a chatbot has become an integral aspect of how the majority of businesses offer customer service. As a result, employers are actively seeking individuals with conversational AI expertise to create tens or even hundreds of thousands of interactions.

RMIT’s Centre for Future Skills and Workforce Transformation in the College of Vocational Education (FORWARD) is collaborating with the Conversation Design Institute (CDI) to offer a conversational AI course specifically designed to meet the requirements of British students. The course content is customised to cater to the needs of UK learners.

This concise online course provides flexible, self-paced learning opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds to gain the fundamental knowledge and abilities necessary for pursuing careers in the fast-growing sector of conversational AI. It encompasses the utilisation of various AI applications, including ChatGPT, to equip learners with essential skills.

According to the Director of FORWARD, the conversational AI sector is experiencing a surge in demand for proficient conversation designers from businesses operating across multiple industries.

He expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with CDI to offer training programs for individuals seeking to advance their knowledge and professional expertise in this forward-looking career field. The initiative aims to help Australian companies achieve productivity gains through upskilling and reskilling programs.

The founder of CDI, based in the Netherlands, has highlighted the significant demand for proficient conversational AI specialists. The institute receives numerous requests for trained and certified professionals every day.

Through the collaboration with RMIT, they aim to provide upskilling and reskilling opportunities for the workforce, enabling them to pursue exciting careers in AI across Australia. He further stated that they are eager to establish this partnership and witness the first Australian learners achieve certification.

In 2020, the global conversational AI market size reached a value of US$5.78 billion, with a projected growth of US$32.62 billion by 2030, indicating a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.0% from 2021 to 2030.

Conversational AI refers to a collection of techniques that enable computer programs to comprehend, process, and respond to voice and text-based user commands in a natural way. Additionally, it is an advanced form of AI that enables users to interact with websites, devices, and applications through touch, text, and gesture-based information.

Conversational AI is typically employed in conjunction with intelligent virtual agents or chatbots to achieve faster and more dependable interactions with complex systems. Furthermore, effective implementation of conversational artificial intelligence requires a blend of art and science, resulting in digital applications that incorporate relevance, context, and personalisation in human-computer interactions.

Conversational AI leverages natural language processing (NLP) in combination with machine learning technology. The NLP process is integrated into a continuous loop with machine learning techniques, allowing for ongoing enhancement of AI algorithms. As a result, the quality of responses generated by machine algorithms improves over time through learning and refinement.

The global conversational AI industry is influenced by several significant factors, such as the growing demand for AI-powered chatbot solutions and customer support services that utilise artificial intelligence. However, lack of awareness and knowledge about conversational AI solutions can hinder early adoption, posing a significant obstacle to market growth.

Conversely, the increasing adoption of omnichannel approaches, along with the growing use of social media platforms for customer engagement, is projected to present promising opportunities for growth in the conversational AI market during the forecast period.
