To accelerate the digital transformation of the southern manufacturing industries, The Export Processing Zone Administration (EPZA) of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) strives for the Forward-looking Program 2.0 funds to promote the talents cultivation base project digital transformation in the southern parks, cooperates with the Institute for Information Industry (III) to build Taiwan’s first “Digital Transformation Innovation Hub (DTIH)”, which was officially completed in Kaohsiung Software Park (KSP).

Through the mode of co-learning, consensus, and co-creation, DTIH is expected to cultivate 160 high-level digital transformation seed talents in the manufacturing industries, 80 digital transformation consultants, and facilitate the investment of NTD250 million in the digital transformation of manufacturers, driving the output value of digital transformation services to more than NTD1.6 billion, promote the co-creation of positivist paradigm, and moulding the digital transformation settlement in the great south.

EPZA Director-General indicated that Taiwan established the world’s first Export Processing Zone in 1966, symbolising an important turning point for economic take-off, and the export processing zones were officially renamed Technology Industrial Parks this year. The Technology Industrial Park will be an important navigator for digital transformation in the southern manufacturing industries, especially KSP, located in 5G AIoT Innovation Park of Kaohsiung’s Asia New Bay Area, leading the innovative technology developments and talents cultivation for 5G software technology application field.

To meet the increasing demands for digital technology year by year, the EPZA actively expands KSP second phase to attract more enterprises to invest and station in the park to expand the scale of the southern digital technology industries settlement. In response to the trend of digital technology, the most critical fields for digital transformation in the future are Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Cloud, Data Analytics, Edge Computing and 5G, by using emerging technologies to drive the transformation of the manufacturing industry to increase the added-value of the industries.

The EPZA built the first Digital Transformation Innovation Hub in Taiwan and will cooperate with Kaohsiung City Government and HTC to provide the hub with a 5G private network environment and build a 5G remote real-time collaboration space, and a smart factory solution- AR intelligent mechanical arm control technology display. Moreover, the EPZA plans a limited number of free training courses every year to guide enterprises to build consensus.

The five courses are exclusive:

  • Cultivate a chief strategy officer for enterprise digital transformation.
  • Leader-level communication courses.
  • Authoritative lecturer in North and South.
  • High-value ACE School methodology.
  • Exclusive consultants create a strategic blueprint jointly.

Through the co-creation of localised value, assisting enterprises to digital transform independently, which will guide the model case from the Technology Industrial Park and expand to the southern industrial area, gradually leading the innovative transformation and development of the local industries, creating a comprehensive effect of win-win for the southern soft and hard industries.

According to an article, the MOEA said the new hub underscores the government’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation in the manufacturing industry. It is funded under the flagship Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Programme (FIDP). The platform will help shape the digital transformation of business clusters through a model of co-learning, consensus and co-creation.

Launched in 2017, the FIDP is a comprehensive plan aimed at addressing Taiwan’s key infrastructure needs for the next 30 years. It includes projects spanning railway development, digital infrastructure, aquatic environments, food safety, green energy, urban-rural development, boosting birth rates and child care facilities, and nurturing talent and employment.
