Vietnam Driving its Digital Economy with GenAI

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In a significant projection for the Vietnamese digital landscape, Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is poised to make a significant contribution, estimated at a staggering VND 14 trillion (US$ 574.83 million) by 2030. Dang Huu Son, Vice Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence for Industry Development, a local alliance dedicated to digital human resources development, shared this optimistic outlook.

The recent establishment of AIID, a collaborative effort involving 17 technology-oriented universities and enterprises, marks a significant step towards bridging the gap between academia and industry. This alliance seeks to empower students by providing access to practical digital knowledge and skills, ensuring that the workforce is well-equipped for the demands of the rapidly evolving tech landscape.

Son stressed that the evolution of AI is not just a technological advancement; it is a transformative force that will reshape efficiency and elevate personal skills across multiple generations on a national scale.

Notably, Vietnam has emerged as a frontrunner in AI enthusiasm, with an impressive 91% of respondents expressing a positive outlook on this technology, as revealed by a survey conducted by Finastra Financial Services. This enthusiasm surpasses rates recorded in other global markets.

The year 2023 marked a watershed moment with the introduction of several homegrown AI products by Vietnamese experts, underscoring the nation’s commitment to technological innovation.

A leading technology company, unveiled a pioneering in-enterprise training advisor, setting a benchmark for Southeast Asia. Simultaneously, another company launched AI content writing assistants tailored for individuals and businesses, further showcasing Vietnam’s prowess in AI development.

A prominent player in the Vietnamese tech scene, announced a groundbreaking open-source research project, focusing on creating a large language model specifically designed for the Vietnamese language. In a parallel development, a localised version of ChatGPT designed for end-users in Vietnam was released.

The community version of ViGPT is strategically tailored to emphasise cultural and historical features. This initiative aims to preserve and develop aspects deemed vital for the future generations of Vietnam. It has further solidified its commitment by collaborating with the Ministry of Information and Communications to deploy the platform for disseminating information related to legal regulations and policies.

Vietnam stands at the forefront of a digital revolution fueled by Generative AI, with homegrown innovations and strategic collaborations paving the way for unprecedented growth. With an unwavering commitment to technological advancement, the country not only embraces but also drives forward a comprehensive roadmap that harnesses the power of Artificial Intelligence.

In an OpenGov Asia report, Da Nang, in central Vietnam, is emerging as a technological powerhouse, taking a significant leap forward with the inauguration of an Integrated Circuit (IC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Training Centre. The city’s People’s Committee solidified this groundbreaking move with a decisive decree on December 30, formally establishing this pioneering facility. Under the municipal Department of Information and Communications jurisdiction, this centre marks a pivotal milestone in the city’s tech landscape.

As the nation embraces the transformative power of AI, the digital economy is set to soar to new heights, promising a future where technological prowess converges seamlessly with national development goals. This deliberate and forward-thinking approach positions Vietnam as a pioneer in sculpting innovative economic strategies, leveraging AI’s potential across industries and fostering a vibrant ecosystem that nurtures technological growth and sustainable development.
