OpenGov Asia held the fifth edition of its Annual Malaysian OGLF. The forum included stimulating round-table discussions with innovative gamification methods, engaging panels and insightful talks by local and international leaders in public sector ICT.
Concurrently, OpenGov Asia held the OpenGov Recognition of Excellence (RoE) 2019, a commendation that aims to establish new benchmarks for government ICT innovation in the ASEAN and ANZ regions.
Over the last year, Malaysia has been setting the bar for innovation and technological advancement. The region has worked continuously to inspire and sustain innovation through its policies, infrastructure and economic decisions.
This year, OpenGov recognised 12 Malaysian government agencies that are working to support Malaysia’s digital transformation efforts.
The award winners for Malaysian OpenGov Recognition of Excellence 2019 are:
Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation
OpenGov recognised Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation for its APU Cybersecurity Talent Zone.
The aim of setting up the CyberSecurity Talent Zone within APU’s campus is to address the industry’s pressing need for technically competent CyberSecurity professionals.
This international partnership produced a Security Operations Centre (SOC) set up in collaboration with TecForte Sdn Bhd from Malaysia, a comprehensive Cyber Range set up together with Cyber Test Systems from France, and UK GCHQ accredited “UK GCHQ Security Operations Centre – Incident Responder (SOC-IR) Program provided by PGI Ltd.
The facilities and system will enable students to engage in a comprehensive learning experience wherein they will be provided with real-time, actual data that they can use to develop cybersecurity countermeasures.
By encouraging Malaysian youth to take up cybersecurity courses, APU aims to create more cybersecurity professionals to meet the urgent industry demand.
Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC)
OpenGov recognised Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) for its project BLEE – Barangan Luarbiasa Eksklusif e-Usahawan.
BLEE aims to give local businesses, particularly rural entrepreneurs, access to more growth opportunities in the digital economy by providing them with a platform to conduct their business.
The e-commerce marketplace MyBazar Malaysia has been appointed by Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to be the first online platform to pilot a programme called Blee. MyBazar, which had commenced operations since June 2017, is working to break through to sellers of the non-urban areas.
This is being done via the integration of social networking in their B2B2C marketplace, localised user-friendly interface and direct off-line merchant engagement.
The Blee programme launches with 500 selected local merchants selling more than 2,000 products ranging from foodstuffs to fashion, home décor and handicrafts with an aim to widen the reach and boosting the adoption of e-commerce nationwide by targeting micro and rural merchants and entrepreneurs.
Malaysia Unmanned Drones Activist Society
OpenGov recognised Malaysia Unmanned Drones Activist Society for its “FLY RESPONSIBLY IN MALAYSIA” project.
“The FLY RESPONSIBLY IN MALAYSIA” campaign is fitted with workshops and educational training to educate Malaysians on the importance of operating drones safely for Unmanned Aircraft System operators.
The FLY RESPONSIBLY IN MALAYSIA campaign specifically targets the importance of operating drones in a SAFE MANNER for UAS operators in Malaysia. MUDAS is focused on improving safety in UAS operations through the adoption and modification of time-honoured aviation safety and training practices.
