Vietnamese COVID-19 Control Vehicles to Get AI-Driven Tech Systems

Around 120,000 transport vehicles for COVID-19 prevention and control will be supported with artificial intelligence (AI) systems provided by a private player. The government and the Vietnam Automobile Transportation Association will also have access to the technology according to a news report.

The company is willing to provide the technology service to camera suppliers without profit, so that data on the vehicles will be connected to the current vehicle management software of the transport companies without any further cost. With AI technology, vehicles will have the ‘safe travel’ application, which will alert authorities when passengers, drivers, or staff do not wear face masks or social distance protocols are not maintained. The alerts will be automatically sent to the transport company managing the vehicles as well as drivers and the driver’s assistant.

Passenger transport vehicles are expected to install cameras to serve transport management and pandemic control activities. Since June this year, the organisation has supplied AI technology for face mask warnings to nearly 1,000 passenger transport vehicles, reducing the ratio of passengers failing to wear masks properly to 6-7% from 23%. According to the Vietnam Automobile Transportation Association, the AI technology application has helped to reduce 80-90% in the ratio of people not wearing masks on vehicles. Earlier, the association sent a document to all transport companies asking them to apply AI technology for pandemic prevention and control activities.

The Vietnamese government has been effective at managing the COVID-19 pandemic using emerging technologies to power platforms and applications. In September, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) deployed an electronic medical declaration platform to check people’s information management with QR codes. Every citizen will be granted a personal QR code for all anti-pandemic apps and platforms. MIC built the platform to manage and grant QR codes, which will be used for all anti-pandemic platforms and apps (QRQG Platform).

People going to public places will have to scan their QR codes. Offices, businesses, shops, and service providing points, when reopening, must ensure entry/exit supervision with QR code scanning. The MIC’s guidance to display and use one personal QR code for all platforms and apps will create favourable conditions for every citizen and organization when implementing operations to prevent and control COVID-19.

Last week, the national COVID-19 prevention and control application, PC-Covid Vietnam, was made available, developed from the Bluezone mobile application. Smartphone users who have already installed Bluezone can update the app to PC-Covid with all its functions. PC-Covid will become the single app for all COVID-19 prevention and control activities in the country. It has been added with all functions of the previously launched apps, including VHD, Bluezone, and NCOVI. The PC-Covid app provides a “COVID-19 card” to users who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or recovered from the virus, enabling them to travel and join social activities in the new normal period.

Major functions of the app include the card, a health declaration function, COVID-19 vaccination information and testing results, movement tracking, a map of risks, and provides news on overall pandemic prevention and control strategies. However, the app will not replace the electronic health records (“So suc khoe dien tu”) app, which records the long-term overall medical activities of users.
