Comprising over 20 activities such as exhibitions, seminars, and an awards ceremony to recognise recipients of the VietFuture Awards, the Digital Transformation Week – Hue 2023 drew more than 2,000 delegates and visitors.

Specifically, the plenary session on fostering digital data and advancing regional connectivity featured the participation of over 50 prominent experts in digital transformation, as well as leaders from various agencies and businesses.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Thanh Binh, stated that Thua Thien-Hue, recognised as one of the leading localities in the digital transformation index, has undertaken diverse initiatives to advance the establishment of electronic and digital government, facilitate smart urban development, and ensure the efficient management and use of data from multiple sectors.

The Digital Transformation Week – Hue 2023 contributed to enhancing public awareness regarding digital transformation and helped gather insights from experts to refine the region’s digital transformation strategies and solutions in the future. The week also presented an opportunity for the province to attract additional investors, he added.

As part of the event’s framework, a technology exhibition was held, showcasing local digital transformation utilities and solutions from prominent tech companies like Viettel and Mobifone. It also highlighted innovative startup technology ideas and products.

Vietnam’s digital economy is poised for substantial growth, projected to reach around US$ 45 billion by 2025 with an annual growth rate of 20% from 2023 to 2025, attributed to anticipated robust economic growth, an industry survey from November stated.

As OpenGov Asia reported, the digital economy not only contributes to economic advancement but also creates new employment opportunities, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents. While the projected figures are US$ 4 billion lower than those in the 2022 report, which expected Vietnam’s digital economy leading in Southeast Asia with a 31% annual growth and reaching US$ 49 billion by 2025, it remains evident that Vietnam’s digital economy is on a trajectory of significant growth.

The industry survey underscored the growing prevalence of digital payments due to government backing and investments from commercial banks. Data reveals an upward trend among Vietnamese users adopting digital banking and various payment methods such as mobile banking apps, e-wallets, QR code-based payments, e-commerce platforms, and mobile wallet debit or credit cards. Notably, about four out of five consumers use e-wallets at least once a week. Top of Form

96% of Vietnamese banks have formulated digital transformation plans, and 92% have developed internet and mobile application services. The upswing in online payments is, in part, attributed to a significant surge in online shopping and e-commerce, registering an annual growth rate of 41% over the past three years. As a result, digital payments now constitute over 50% of the region’s transaction value.

Estimated to reach around US$ 20.5 billion this year, e-commerce revenue is poised for a substantial increase from the 2018 figure of US$ 8 billion. The persistent growth in online retail revenue, constituting 7.5% of consumer goods and services nationwide, highlights the pivotal role of the sector in propelling economic development and fostering digital transformation.
