The event featured top pilots from France, Thailand, and Taiwan, leveraging the world’s first 5G dual-band private network for drone racing. With innovation, the network demonstrated unparalleled speed and efficiency, allowing pilots to control drones with 5G MR glasses, manoeuvring through obstacles at 60 kilometres per hour.

The computer manufacturer, supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, constructed the world’s first outdoor 5G dual-band private network system. The system, from small base stations to MR head-mounted displays, was developed entirely by them.

The competition showcased the system’s low-latency image transmission technology, reducing the pilot’s control delay to a remarkable 0.04 seconds, five times faster than conventional 5G phones. This achievement underscores the significance of a stable and low-latency 5G dedicated frequency private network, offering applications beyond drone racing in smart factories, exhibitions, transportation, and medical sectors.

Jiang Cunjie of the Industrial Research Institute emphasised the potential of 5G technology in various applications, praising the successful collaboration with the computer manufacturer. The competition included top international pilots, validating the 5G system’s high-speed performance. Witnessed by over 6,200 audiences, the event not only showcased technological prowess but also highlighted the fusion of technology and sports.

In addition, ITRI has outlined a comprehensive “2035 Technology Strategy and Blueprint,” focusing on intelligent enabling technology in communication. The emphasis lies on advancing 5G and B5G communication technologies, aiming to propel industrial development, facilitate applications, and fortify China’s industrial prowess. The event stands as a testament to Taiwan’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and its potential impact on various industries.

Taiwan embraces the advantages of 5G technology, propelling the nation into a new era of connectivity and innovation. With significantly increased data speeds, 5G ensures a faster and more efficient internet experience for users. Low latency becomes a hallmark of 5G, offering real-time responsiveness crucial for applications like online gaming and augmented reality (AR).

The expanded capacity of 5G networks accommodates a growing ecosystem of connected devices, supporting the proliferation of IoT technologies and smart solutions. Mobile broadband sees a substantial improvement, enhancing download speeds, streaming quality, and overall connectivity on mobile devices. This technological leap not only benefits individuals but also catalyses innovation across industries.

In healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation, 5G acts as a catalyst for transformative technologies like telemedicine, smart manufacturing, and autonomous vehicles. The economic implications are profound as well, with 5G deployment contributing to overall economic growth. The technology attracts investments, fosters new business models, and positions Taiwan competitively in the global tech landscape.

Moreover, 5G plays a pivotal role in the development of smart cities, supporting initiatives that enhance public services, infrastructure, and urban sustainability. Taiwan’s proactive adoption of 5G reflects its commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and fostering a culture of research and development.

Beyond domestic implications, 5G ensures Taiwan’s global connectivity, facilitating international collaboration and participation in the evolving digital economy. The advantages of 5G in Taiwan extend far beyond faster internet; they mark a transformative journey towards a technologically advanced, innovative, and globally connected nation.
