In a major collaborative effort to drive innovation in the realm of smart healthcare, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and the Hospital Authority (HA) recently organised the “HKSTP x HA Innovation Forum”. This significant event served as a platform for 27 Park companies affiliated with HKSTP to showcase their cutting-edge technologies and engage with experts and investors, marking a crucial step toward fostering collaboration and co-creation in the healthcare sector.

The primary objective of the “HKSTP x HA Innovation Forum” was to catalyse technology adoption and co-creation between HKSTP Park companies and the Hospital Authority, with the overarching goal of accelerating the development of smart hospitals in Hong Kong. As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, the integration of innovative technologies becomes imperative to enhance patient care, streamline operations, and fortify healthcare infrastructure against future challenges.

This forum, which stands as a testament to the commitment of both HKSTP and the Hospital Authority, is part of a series of technology immersion webinars and workshops conducted over the past two years. Aligned with HA’s strategic vision of providing “Smart Care,” supported by a “Smart Workforce,” and empowered by “Smart Hospital” initiatives, the collaboration seeks to revolutionise healthcare delivery in both clinical and non-clinical domains.

During the forum, park companies led by HKSTP displayed a diverse array of technologies at the HA Headquarters, creating a unique opportunity for interaction with more than 200 senior leaders and executives from the Hospital Authority. Six of these companies also took the stage to present their innovations, further highlighting the potential of technology to transform the healthcare landscape.

Albert Wong, CEO of HKSTP, expressed enthusiasm about joining forces with the Hospital Authority on their journey to advance the city’s smart hospital development. He emphasised the role of the “HKSTP x HA Innovation Forum” as a new platform to elevate Hong Kong’s healthcare systems, improve efficiency in facilities management, and enhance resilience to cope with future changes.

Dr Tony Ko, Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority, underlined the positive impact that emerging technologies can have on healthcare service efficiency, patient experience, and the overall development of smart hospitals, especially in non-clinical areas. The collaboration with HKSTP aims to strengthen the use of innovative technologies across various healthcare aspects, setting the stage for transformative changes.

The commitment of HKSTP goes beyond a one-time event, as they aspire to forge a long-term partnership with the Hospital Authority to drive smart hospital technologies. The technology footprint of HKSTP Park companies has already facilitated the service provision by 20 companies for technology cases across public hospitals and clinics under the HA, as well as the HA’s IT Innovation Lab.

Looking ahead, the “HKSTP x HA Innovation Forum” serves as a catalyst for future advancements in smart healthcare. As the partnership evolves, it is poised to contribute to the ongoing transformation of Hong Kong’s healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of technological innovation in the digital era. The collaborative efforts between HKSTP and the Hospital Authority aim not only to meet current healthcare challenges but also to proactively address future needs, positioning Hong Kong as a leader in smart healthcare solutions on the global stage.

Hong Kong is actively fostering healthtech development through collaborative initiatives like the “HKSTP x HA Innovation Forum” to advance the integration of innovative technologies in healthcare.
