Strategic Alliance to Empower India’s Tech Ecosystem

At the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), a premier research institution under the Government of India focusing on telecom technology, unveiled plans for a transformative collaboration with a global tech giant. This strategic partnership aims to ignite innovation within India’s burgeoning tech ecosystem and provide essential support to local developers and startups.

The company is at the forefront of enabling connectivity across industries, offering advanced technologies that power the next generation of smart devices. With a focus on innovation and collaboration, it aims to accelerate the digital economy and transform industries worldwide.

Under this partnership, the company pledges to provide C-DOT with cutting-edge technology, expertise, and intellectual property training. These resources will empower Indian startups, academia, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to accelerate the development and commercialisation of indigenous telecom products, leveraging the company’s wireless solutions and technologies.

The collaboration is poised to achieve several overarching objectives including facilitating Access to Foundational Technologies. Startups, OEMs, and academia will gain access to foundational chip technologies and domain experts, fostering innovation and scaling up research and development efforts.

It will also expedite the commercialisation of Indigenous Products. The partnership aims to expedite the commercialisation and business development of Indian startups engaged in building telecom products and solutions, thereby bolstering the nation’s digital economy.

Dr Neeraj Mittal, Chairman of the Digital Communications Commission and Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, emphasised the pivotal role of innovation in driving India’s digital growth. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship in telecom technology, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of “Design in India” and “Make in India.”

Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential to unlock India’s vast R&D capabilities and accelerate the commercialisation of new products and use cases. He highlighted the alignment with the Ministry of Communications’ directives, guiding the nation toward self-reliance in telecom solutions.

The Senior Vice President and President of the company underscored India’s thriving tech ecosystem and the government’s initiatives to foster growth. With her company’s commitment to India’s digital journey, she envisioned significant opportunities for innovation, particularly in 5G and on-device AI technologies.
