Inaugurating the event, Mr Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the government’s relentless efforts to combat cyber-frauds through the Secure India project, operating at national, organisational, and individual levels. He underscored the importance of initiatives like the ‘Sanchar Saathi’ portal in raising awareness and mitigating cyber-security threats, emphasising the pivotal role played by the newly launched DIP and Chakshu platforms in augmenting the nation’s cybersecurity capabilities.

The Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP), developed by the Department of Telecommunications, serves as a secure and integrated platform for real-time intelligence sharing and coordination among various stakeholders, including Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), law enforcement agencies (LEAs), banks, and social media platforms. Designed to combat the misuse of telecom resources, DIP facilitates the exchange of critical information and case detection, empowering stakeholders in their respective domains.

Notably, DIP operates as a backend repository for citizen-initiated requests on the Sanchar Saathi portal, ensuring swift action by relevant stakeholders. Accessible only to authorised personnel via secure connectivity, DIP strengthens collaboration in combating cybercrime and financial fraud.

The introduction of the ‘Chakshu’ facility on the Sanchar Saathi portal marks a significant enhancement in citizen-centric services. This feature enables individuals to report suspected fraud communications, including instances of KYC expiry, bank account updates, impersonation scams, and more. By empowering citizens to report fraudulent activities promptly, Chakshu contributes to the prevention and mitigation of cybercrime and financial fraud.

In addition to reporting suspected fraud communications, the Sanchar Saathi portal offers various services to ensure the safety and security of citizens’ digital interactions. These include:

  • Checking mobile connections issued in one’s name and reporting unnecessary or unauthorised connections for disconnection.
  • Reporting stolen or lost mobile handsets for blocking and tracing.
  • Verifying the authenticity of mobile handsets before purchase.
  • Reporting incoming international calls with Indian telephone numbers as caller identification.

Mr Devusinh Chauhan commended DoT’s endeavours in countering cyber-security threats, acknowledging the completion of several successful projects and the ongoing development of additional measures to address emerging frauds.

Telecom Secretary Dr Neeraj Mittal emphasised the significance of the new portals in safeguarding citizens’ digital assets and curbing fraudulent activities within the communication ecosystem. These initiatives, he noted, would enhance coordination and information exchange among stakeholders, bolstering efforts to combat cyber threats effectively.

By leveraging technology and fostering collaboration between stakeholders and citizens, the Ministry of Communications aims to fortify India’s cybersecurity infrastructure and combat evolving cyber threats effectively. The launch of DIP and Chakshu represents a significant step towards achieving this objective, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring a secure digital environment for all.

At the “Future First” conference hosted by GSMA, OpenGov Asia reported, that India demonstrated its dedication to technological advancement and international collaboration in the telecommunications sector. Secretary Mittal showcased India’s telecom advancements and global collaborations, highlighting the country’s commitment to fostering industry unity and innovation for unlocking future potential in the telecommunications landscape.

Secretary Mittal’s proactive stance underscored India’s commitment to leveraging innovation for socio-economic progress, reflecting the nation’s ambitious vision for digital transformation. Highlighting India’s rapid technological progress, particularly in the accelerated rollout of 5G networks globally, Secretary Mittal emphasized the country’s leading position in the technology space and its comprehensive digital transformation across all sectors, showcasing India’s dedication to inclusive growth and a prosperous future for all citizens.
