The Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) in Thailand has embarked on a collaborative journey with several government agencies and futurology centres in Thailand to unveil the research findings titled “Futures of Health and Wellness in Thailand 2033.” This cooperative effort aims to raise awareness about health and well-being, promote development for maximum benefit in preparing for changes, and design a desirable future for Thailand’s healthcare system and related sectors. The study takes a comprehensive approach, examining societal, technological, economic, environmental, legal, policy, and values dimensions to provide a holistic view of the future landscape.

Dr Chaichana Mitrphan, the Director of the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), underscored the importance of foresight in shaping the future landscape of online transactions and digital life.

Leading the charge, the ETDA Foresight Centre diligently scans directional signals, crafting future scenarios to bolster strategic planning and policy formulation. In the current year, the centre has focused on expediting and bolstering the adoption of digital technology and electronic transactions among the Thai populace. Central to its mission is the fervent promotion of regenerative digitalisation, with a core objective of cultivating a sustainable and inclusive digital society accessible to all.

The study has identified two key issues that require urgent attention: Turning Data Privacy Principles into Action and Seamless Integration of AI. These issues underscore the need to expedite the application of AI with ethics and good governance, in addition to developing infrastructure and standardising health information for efficient exchange.

Dr Phongkasem Khaimuk, Director-General of the Department of Mental Health, emphasised the growing importance of mental health problems and psychiatric illnesses in Thailand. The number of patients receiving psychiatric services has been steadily increasing, highlighting the need for holistic care that starts at the individual and family level and extends to society and the community.

Dr Krisphaka Bunfueang, Director of the National Innovation Agency (NIA), stressed the significance of health and well-being for sustainable development. NIA supports innovative entrepreneurs in the medical and health field to create growth and positive economic and social impacts. The research has identified six driving issues toward the future, including making health awareness, developing a proactive public health system, and promoting personalised healthcare.

Additionally, Dr Karndee Leopairot, Chief Futures Officer and Digital Assets Officer of the Futurology Centre discussed the research concept and future scenarios developed. These scenarios emphasise the importance of mobilising all sectors to prevent negative futures and promote positive impacts on people’s health.

The research “Futures of Health and Wellness in Thailand 2033” provides crucial insights and knowledge for developing innovations in health and well-being. It offers a roadmap for Thailand’s health system to navigate future changes, highlighting the importance of collaboration and innovation in creating a positive future for healthcare in the country. The findings of this study serve as a guiding light for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and innovators to shape a healthier and more prosperous future for Thailand.

The collaborative efforts of the ETDA, government agencies, and futurology centre are instrumental in shaping the future of health and wellness in Thailand. By focusing on foresight, digital technology, and collaboration, they aim to create a sustainable and inclusive healthcare system that benefits all Thai people.

In the future, the research findings and collaborative efforts discussed will have a transformative impact on Thailand’s healthcare landscape. By leveraging foresight and digital technology, stakeholders are better positioned to address emerging challenges and capitalise on opportunities for innovation and growth. By embracing innovation, collaboration, and foresight, Thailand can create a healthcare system that is sustainable, inclusive, and resilient in the face of future challenges.
