In an effort to enhance the ease of living for pensioners, Secretary V Shrinivas of the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) announced the integration of pension portals from all pension disbursing banks into the Integrated Pensioners’ Portal. This initiative was highlighted during the launch ceremony of the Integrated Pensioners’ Portal of the Bank of India.

Secretary Shrinivas emphasised the department’s commitment to pensioner welfare through digital empowerment, citing initiatives such as Digital Life Certificates and the Bhavishya Portal. The Bhavishya platform, an integrated online pension processing system, ensures end-to-end digitisation of pension processing and payment, from online filing to electronic issuance of the PPO.

With the integration of pension portals from banks like SBI, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, and Canara Bank into the Bhavishya portal, pensioners now have access to a range of services from a single window. This integration enables pensioners to access services such as pension slips, life certificate submission status, due and drawn statements, and Form-16 seamlessly.

The move towards integrating pension portals with the Integrated Pensioners’ Portal aims to address issues faced by pensioners related to banking services. With this integration, pensioners can expect greater transparency, convenience, and efficiency in accessing essential pension-related services. This initiative marks a significant step towards the digital empowerment of pensioners and underscores the department’s commitment to pensioner welfare.

Established with the objective of creating a centralised and administratively controlled mechanism involving Pensioners Associations across the country, the Pensioners’ Portal serves as a single-window platform. Administered by the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare, it functions as a pivotal entity for formulating policies related to the pension and retirement benefits of Central Government Pensioners and Family Pensioners.

The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare assumes a crucial role as the nodal department responsible for policy formulation concerning pensions and other retirement benefits. Additionally, it operates as a forum for addressing pensioners’ grievances, ensuring their concerns are heard and resolved effectively. Through its centralised approach, the department aims to streamline pension administration and enhance support for retired government employees and their families.

India embraces digitalisation to boost efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in public services, driving innovation and economic growth. Prioritising cybersecurity ensures a safe and resilient digital transformation, protecting citizens’ data and privacy against cyber threats.

UMANG, short for Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, serves as a comprehensive platform offering a wide array of e-Government services to Indian citizens. From Central to Local Government bodies, UMANG provides a single interface for accessing various government services, simplifying the process for citizens nationwide

In line with its pledge to retiree welfare, pensioners in India now have the convenience of viewing their pension passbooks directly on their mobile phones, thanks to the UMANG app. Developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), UMANG aims to spearhead Mobile Governance initiatives across the nation.

India is actively implementing cutting-edge technology across sectors for a comprehensive, inclusive, and secure transformation, leveraging its transformative potential in governance, healthcare, education, finance, and more.

OpenGov Asia reported on the government’s emphasis on digital transformation, under the mantra of ‘Minimum Government and Maximum Governance’, underscoring three essential layers: Cashless, Paperless, and Presenceless. DigiLocker, addressing the Paperless Layer, streamlines eKYC, eSign, and verification processes, eliminating physical documents and promoting smooth document exchange among institutions.

Through these concerted efforts, India seeks to build a digitally empowered society that leaves no one behind, enabling every citizen to benefit from the opportunities offered by the digital age.
