Singapore is committed to equipping and reskilling its citizens to thrive in an increasingly digital world. As digital transformation reshapes industries and job markets, the city-state has launched numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing digital literacy and workforce adaptability. Programmes like SkillsFuture and the Digital Ready Talent initiative provide Singaporeans with opportunities to acquire new skills and certifications tailored to emerging technologies.

The government’s focus on lifelong learning ensures that residents can stay competitive and agile, embracing innovations in fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity data analytics and healthcare. By investing in digital education and skills development, Singapore aims to prepare its workforce for the future, fostering a tech-savvy population ready to leverage the opportunities of the digital economy.

Through initiatives like the Singapore Biodesign Faculty Fellowship, Singapore cultivates a robust ecosystem where technology and healthcare converge, driving global innovation. This effort promises profound impacts on healthcare accessibility and patient outcomes, advancing towards a more integrated and patient-centric healthcare future.

Since its inception in 2017, SkillsFuture Advice@North West has been instrumental in helping residents identify their skills and strengths, plan their careers, and promote lifelong learning. This initiative is part of the broader SkillsFuture programme, in collaboration with SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI), and the five Community Development Councils (CDC).

The festival will be organised into three key zones: the Explore Zone for discovering new job opportunities and upskilling courses; the Experiential Zone, where participants can engage in activities such as Drone Flying, Quick Draw & AI Video Generator, and City Farming Demos; and the Guidance Zone, where residents can receive advice from the SkillsFuture Advice @ North West team and career coaches. The festival aims to empower residents to take control of their skills development and turn them into career opportunities through lifelong learning.

The Mayor of North West District, Mr Alex Yam, will inaugurate this year’s festival, joined by Grassroots Adviser Ms Mariam Jaafar from Sembawang GRC Grassroots Organisations. Mr Yam emphasised the festival’s importance, stating, “SkillsFuture Festival @ North West provides learners and job seekers with access to vital career and upskilling resources across emerging and evergreen sectors.

North West CDC has strengthened its collaborations with corporate and community partners to support and uplift the community. This year’s festival will feature partnerships with Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), industry experts, employers, and training providers to enhance the festival’s offerings. In addition to the anchor event, the festival will include four webinar sessions on employability and in-demand topics, as well as two career fairs on August 17 and 18, 2024.
