The Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the nation’s premier digital economy agency under the Digital Ministry (KD), recently hosted a series of My Digital Tour (JSD) programmes as part of the Sabah Education Tech 2024 (SET 2024) event. Held from August 2 to 4 at the Sabah International Convention Center (SICC), the event attracted an estimated 2,500 visitors.

The Saya Digital campaign, launched in late 2020, aims to enhance the digital skills of Malaysians to better engage with the digital economy. This initiative also supports the Sabah state government’s aspirations under the Sabah Maju Jaya framework, which aims for Sabah to achieve high-income status by 2030 through a robust digital economy.

The JSD programme focuses on four key areas: Saya Digital Literacy, Saya Digital Business, Saya Digital Freelance, and Saya Digital Career. These areas target specific groups, including the B40 income group, unemployed graduates, seniors, people with disabilities, students, and micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs (PMKS).

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) plans to engage 40,000 participants through its ‘Jelajah Saya Digital’ (JSD) programme, set to take place at 31 locations this year. Since launching in 2021, JSD has visited 69 locations nationwide, training 27,154 participants. This year’s goal of involving 40,000 participants across 31 locations underscores the programme’s importance in boosting digital skills and supporting the growth of the nation’s digital economy.

At an earlier event, MDEC Chairman, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, emphasised the importance of digital technology and smart lifestyle solutions for both urban and rural communities, particularly entrepreneurs. He noted that the programme, aligned with Malaysia MADANI’s vision of inclusivity and equality, focuses on four key areas: digital literacy, business, freelancing, and career development. Syed Ibrahim encouraged local businesses to leverage digital methods to boost income and sales.

Among the key initiatives under JSD are the eUsahawan and MyDigitalMaker programmes. The eUsahawan programme has successfully trained 564,629 students from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes and entrepreneurs nationwide, generating cumulative sales of over RM1.26 billion. Meanwhile, the MyDigitalMaker programme has impacted over 2.5 million school students nationwide, engaging them in digital manufacturing activities.

Throughout the JSD programme, various engaging activities were offered, including sharing sessions and practical demonstrations on topics such as digital marketing techniques, robotics in education, AI technology in daily work, DIY projects, and game applications.

JSD @ Kota Kinabalu was officially inaugurated by YB Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Member of Parliament for Kota Kinabalu, alongside YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, Chairman of MDEC.

MDEC’s strategic partners, including the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), TM-Unifi Business, and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), also contributed to the event with informative sharing sessions, further enriching the programme’s offerings.

MyDIGITAL is an initiative reflecting the Government’s ambition to transform Malaysia into a digitally-enabled, technology-driven high-income nation and establish it as a regional leader in the digital economy.

MyDIGITAL is set to drive the growth of Malaysia’s digital economy by fully harnessing the potential of innovation and the ethical use of 4IR technologies, aiming for inclusive, responsible, and sustainable socio-economic development.

The initiative aspires to empower Malaysians to embrace digitalisation, enhancing their quality of life, nurturing talent, and fostering a culture of innovation. By adopting a whole-of-nation approach, MyDIGITAL fosters partnerships between citizens, and public and private sectors to achieve its ambitious goals.

Malaysia’s digital ambitions, led by MDEC, aim to position the nation as a global digital economy leader. Through initiatives like the My Digital Tour (JSD) and MyDIGITAL framework, Malaysia is enhancing digital skills and promoting inclusive, sustainable growth, paving the way to becoming a regional hub for digital innovation by 2030.
