The 2020 edition of the international forum and exhibition Smart City Asia will take place in Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City from 3-5 September.

Smart City Asia is the first specialised exhibition in Vietnam focusing on the fields of smart equipment, technology, and solutions, including specialised exhibitions and seminar programs.

The announcement was made during a press conference held by the Vietnam Digital Communications Association (VDCA) in Hanoi, earlier this week.

The event is being co-organised by the VDCA and the Exporum Co. Ltd under the auspices of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), the Vietnam Innovation and Digital Transformation Institute, and the HCM City People’s Committee.

The VDCA Vice Chairman, Nguyen Lam Thanh, told the press conference that the event will afford domestic and foreign experts the chance to share their experience and technology to build smart cities, as well as introduce Make in Vietnam products in the field.

The discussions will focus on international experience, the development of infrastructure for smart urban areas in Vietnam, safety and security, breakthrough technology, and smart production amid Industry 4.0.

According to a press release, about 200 stalls from nearly 100 domestic and foreign exhibitors are expected to be opened.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic and the resulting limited mobility, businesses and experts worldwide in smart city development will be connected online.

On display at the exhibition will be public lighting technology, equipment for smart building construction and management, smart education, and housing, among others.

According to the organising board, around 160 exhibitors have registered to attend.

Smart City Asia 2020 will be held in parallel with the International LED/OLED and Digital Signage Show 2020, with Vietnam’s leading lighting enterprises taking part.

HCM City has been taking steps to digitally transform its infrastructure. Its smart city model is an initiative that the city has been working on for the past two years. It has recorded significant success in the first phase, which started in 2017 and will finish at the end of 2020.

As OpenGov reported, the city has laid the groundwork for four main pillars of a smart city. These include a shared database and open data ecosystem, a smart city operating centre, a centre for socioeconomic forecasts and simulation, and a centre for information safety.

The shared database of the city has been put into operation at Quang Trung Software City in District 12. The database integrates data from the city’s agencies and departments, which cover multiple sectors, from foreign investment to public investment, education, healthcare and cadastre. The city has also launched a shared database portal.
