The Philippines Gets New Robotic Automation Lab

Technology has consistently altered the way workers in every industry perform their duties. Technology has improved working conditions from the Industrial Revolution to the present day. Its impact on the workplace has streamlined time-consuming and environmentally wasteful processes, accelerated access to work while exponentially increasing productivity, and made working from anywhere easier than ever before.

Workers today are more productive than ever before. The impact of technology on work, both in manufacturing and communication, has increased the rate of production and the speed at which business occurs exponentially. Workplace technology has enabled employees to be more efficient than ever before. What used to take hours can now be completed in minutes.

Following its recent launch last June, the Philippine’s government, mentioned that the Advanced Mechatronics, Robotics, and Industrial Automation Laboratory, or AMERIAL, is set to strengthen the metals and engineering sectors, as well as allied industries, as the Philippines participates in the “Fourth Industrial Revolution,” or IR 4.0. AMERIAL was built with a P40.9-million DOST project through the Metals Industry Research and Development Centre (MIRDC) in collaboration with the Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines.

By making industrial automation processes more accessible, the DOST said AMERIAL could achieve its aim of enhancing the technological and workforce competitiveness of local enterprises in the global market thereby improving economic productivity at the national level.

The laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technology such as the SMART Factory Learning System, a six-axis collaborative robot, and a mechatronics training kit for pneumatics, programmable logic controllers, and human-machine interfaces (HMI). The DOST stated that by making industrial automation processes more accessible, AMERIAL could achieve its goal of improving local enterprises’ technological and workforce competitiveness in the global market, thereby improving economic productivity at the national level.

The new facility will serve as the central hub for collaborative innovation and training on other “disruptive” technologies such as mechatronics and robotics.

Laboratory robotics is the use of a variety of robots, all of which are specifically designed to serve a specific purpose, such as automating a task or assisting a human technician/staff in completing a task. With many advancements over the last few decades, laboratory robotics has become established in a variety of industries.

When it comes to the use of technology such as AI and ML, cloud technology in the workplace also plays a vital role in achieving this. OpenGov Asia reported that to assist businesses in scaling in a high-performance environment offers cloud infrastructure in the public cloud or on-premises, as well as cloud applications through its comprehensive SaaS suite. Fusion Applications, which are part of the company’s suite of cloud-based solutions, are driven by a customer-first mindset and provide a modern user experience by leveraging AI, machine learning, the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain.

The manufacturing and automotive industries have benefited greatly from the use of industry-specific robotics. Robotic manufacturing systems are a relatively new concept in some parts of the manufacturing sector, despite the fact that the technology has been around for decades. Factory managers and business owners can exponentially increase production rates and boost their bottom line by combining traditional manufacturing methods with advanced technology.

Robots have improved manufacturing in a variety of ways. The impact of automated manufacturing is far-reaching, improving productivity and success across the board. When human employees are freed from tasks that robots can easily perform, they can devote more of their time and energy to contributing much-needed knowledge and ideas in higher-level organisational roles. When used correctly, robotics creates an undeniable upward shift in a company’s operations.

In contrast, productivity is increased because robots can take over tasks from humans, allowing them to be redeployed to other areas of the business. Robots produce less waste than humans because they use materials more efficiently. While the initial costs of robots may be high, they save money over time by reducing waste, increasing productivity, and decreasing reliance on humans. It is expected that the use of laboratory robotics will increase in the future and that innovations will be made to address various needs, expanding laboratory robotics capabilities.
