Centre of Excellence for IoT set up in Gurugram

Earlier this week, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) announced the launch of a new Centre of Excellence for the Internet of Things (CoE – IoT) at Gurugram.

In a press statement released by NASSCOM, the centre is the most recent addition to a hub-and-spoke network of CoEs across the country and is a part of a nationwide collaborative initiative that includes the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) state governments.

This Centre of Excellence for IoT is expected to be the largest innovation platforms to enable the IoT revolution through connected devices using new state-of-the-art technologies.

The release said the centre will help with the government’s attempt to strengthen the IoT infrastructure in the country. It will provide high-end technology capabilities, data, expertise, thought leadership and curated programs to broaden capabilities.

Started in 1988, NASSCOM is a non-profit global trade organisation with more than 2,100 members that include both domestic and international companies that have a presence in India.

According to the website, NASSCOM works with diverse stakeholders to build focused initiatives that enable growth through policy advocacy, skill building, research, start-up programs, and an increase in industry outreach.

NASSCOM’s member and associate member companies provide software development, software services, software products, and consulting services. They also offer BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) services, e-commerce and web services, engineering services and animation and gaming services.

NASSCOM’s membership base constitutes over 95% of the industry revenues in India and employs over 3.5 million professionals

The release noted that through the collaboration, NASSCOM will work with the industry and the government to accelerate innovation and enable industry-oriented research. It will promote the adoption of data-driven decision making by enterprises and enable appropriate skills and talent development.

The centre was inaugurated by the Minister for Industry and Commerce, Mr Vipul Goyal. During the event, Ms Debjani Ghosh, the president of NASSCOM, said that the aim of the centre is to act as a perfect collaboration for innovation and high-end technologies.

She said that by bringing in the best minds from industry, academia, start-ups, and the government the centre intends to create a culture of collaboration and co-creation to find solutions to accelerate India’s economic development.

NASSCOM said that with valuable efforts from the Haryana government, the facility will serve as a platform for intelligence-sharing and technology collaboration between stakeholders, to build collective IoT capabilities.

NASSCOM and its industry members are currently engaged in defining the future of job in the digital transformation era.

Providing start-ups with access to state-of-the-art infrastructure, the CoE will stimulate co-creation in consultation with industry experts through NASSCOM programs.

With an aim to accelerate the technology ecosystem in Haryana, it will specialise in real-world solutions for the current fourth industrial revolution.

NASSCOM will also work with the industry and government to identify cases that require technological intervention and connect academia, industry, and policy-makers to bring cutting-edge research to the market.
