According to a recent press release, The EDTA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand its Young Talent Platform in order to create a workforce that supports Thailand’s e-commerce economy. In addition, it aims to support the future generations by developing and sustaining a proactive online consumer protection system to keep pace with the dynamic rate of change in digital technology.

The Director of Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) stated in addition to the launch of the “Young Talent Platform” and e-Commerce Park (which were both launched at Srinakharinwirot University), the ETDA also aims to expand cooperation with other educational institutions.

Thus, an MoU with Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon was signed. The MoU aims to promote and support R&D into better electronic transaction methods and tech.

The Rajamangala University of Technology is an educational institute whose main philosophy is to create people with technical expertise, who can enter into the workforce as educated and well-equipped entrepreneurs and business owners. Moreover, the institute seeks to give it’s alumni an edge by teaching them the various skills and capabilities need to be a valuable member of the workforce.

Together, the two parties will work to develop and maintain a network of educated individuals who will help to develop and create manpower in Thailand’s digital industry via online transactions and complete electronic commerce or e-commerce.

Moreover, the parties seek to facilitate and create incentives for the integration of entrepreneurs in dealing with each other as well.

The cooperation framework will focus on developing various courses that meet the needs of businesses in the digital age.

In order to ensure the development and promotion of personnel (i.e., the workforce), the parties have developed a blueprint that will equip the students the knowledge and skills they need in the modern digital age. In addition, SMEs and enterprise entrepreneurs will also pitch in by providing training for students. They will enable students to gain more knowledge and the ability to support e-commerce.

It was noted that Phra Pranakorn is well-equipped with knowledge, personnel, faculty and student teams that will play a key role in promoting the dissemination of knowledge and training as they will be providing advice on e-commerce.

Thus, through the expanded platform, businesses will learn how to better use online marketing tools to promote comprehensive e-commerce work models.

A part of the cooperation is to ensure that the graduates develop quality in response to the labour market demands and national development in the future.

Meanwhile, in the sector of cooperation, the ETDA also signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Office of Consumer Protection (CPB).

The aim is to jointly develop, promote and support the protection of consumers through online channels. The move is in line with current problems in dealing with situations where technology has changed to become more digital.

Another important step in the development of cooperation is the exchange of knowledge – finding better ways to promote to develop online consumer protection in a comprehensive manner which is in line with the 20-year national strategic framework (2017-2036) on the development of the public service system of the unit.

The Government is working with both the agencies and is committed to multi-dimensional proactive work.

The cooperation is focused on four issues, namely:

  1. Developing mechanisms for online consumer protection: This will be done by linking the databases of product sellers through online channels so as ensure that consumer information is protected and used fairly.
  2. Developing tools, digital systems and mechanisms to ensure data security: This will lead to data analysis in the form of Big Data to enhance consumer protection activities through online channels.
  3. Exchanging and enhancing knowledge, experience and academic information
  4. Providing resourcesand support: This includes personnel, budget, materials, equipment for use in operations under this memorandum of cooperation.
