HK govt tech lab unveils AI camera solution

The Smart Government Innovation Lab in Hong Kong has launched a new solution, developed by one of its incubated tech firms. The solution is now ready for acquisition by other firms, government agencies and academic institutions.

Solution description

The tech firm specialises in video-related technologies, and the solution utilises the firm’s own artificial intelligence technology with hardware to complete tasks such as detection, notifications and prediction.

The firm’s solution enables AI Recognition to be completed on the local site instead of cloud servers. This allows for much faster response time and increased stability. In addition, the technology’s recognition is being completed locally, none of the video data will leave the local intranet. This, therefore, ensures privacy and security.

Application Areas

The technology can be applied in the following areas Environment, Health, Law and Security, Population as well as Transport.

Technologies Used

The solution employs Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning, Predictive Analytics as well as Video Analytics.

Use Case

The firm’s AI Camera solutions can be used to ensure greater more privacy in sensitive areas (such as public toilets). As the video footage will not be uploaded to a cloud server, user data will remain safe. There will also be a cost reduction on bandwidth usages.

Smart City solutions

The Lab is constantly working to develop smart city solutions for Hong Kong, in line with governmental goals.

For example, OpenGov Asia recently reported that the Lab has announced the release of the MAD Gaze smart glasses which were launched in several models, including monocular, binocular, integrated, split, considering customers with different needs.

Integrated smart glasses, battery memory, etc. are installed in the smart glasses, operate with Android system, compatible with most Android apps on the market; support Wi-fi and Bluetooth. The integrated smart glasses are not subject to any restrictions.

It is a completely independent smart wearable product without connecting to a computer or mobile phone. The built-in optical sensor can be automatically or manually adjusted regardless of the scene environment.

MAD Gaze smart glasses can be used with a variety of different operation modes. With gesture control and voice recognition, users can free their hands, which is different from the experience of using other devices.

Smart glasses are an alternative to mobile phones and tablets. In addition to being lightweight, they are more suitable for busy urbanites and can handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

The technology can be applied to City Management, Commerce and Industry, Health, Housing, Law and Security as well as Transport.

In addition, the solution employs Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality, Deep Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Mixed Reality and Video Analytics.

About the Smart Government Innovation Lab

In 2018, the Government established the Smart Government Innovation Lab to explore hi-tech products such as AI and relevant technologies, including machine learning, big data analytics, cognitive systems and intelligent agent, as well as blockchain and robotics from firms, especially local start-ups.

The Lab is always on the lookout for innovation and technology (I&T) solutions that are conducive to enhancing public services or their operational effectiveness.

I&T suppliers are encouraged to regularly visit the Lab’s website to check on the current business and operational needs in public service delivery and propose innovative solutions or product suggestions to address them.
