Cyberjaya calls for smart city innovators

As applications for the 14th Cohort of the Cyberview Living Lab Accelerator (CLLA) programme are set to close within the next 24 hours, software developer, coders and other innovators are encouraged to apply while they still can.

The deadline for one of the country’s best accelerators, that counts TheLorry, Billplz, JomParkir and MedKad as alumni, is 29 June 2020, at 11:59 PM.

Launched by Cyberview Sdn Bhd (Cyberview), the Tech Hub Developer of Cyberjaya in 2013, the CLLA is once again looking for Malaysia’s innovators of tomorrow by inviting start-ups to apply.

Since its inception, the CLLA has helped start-ups to raise over RM87 million in total investments and generated more than US$50.8 million (RM218 million) in total revenue.

According to the Head of Technology Hub Development Division, Cyberview, Cyberjaya is championed as a vibrant Global Tech Hub and the centre of Malaysia’s tech innovations.

The CLLA underscores Cyberview’s firm commitment to strengthen and empower the local tech startup scene. Selected start-ups will be given the opportunity to participate in an intensive 5-month programme that enables them to develop solutions enriching Cyberjaya’s smart city offerings.

The programme is actively seeking start-ups in the fields of Financial Technology (FinTech), Internet-of-Things (IoT), Robotics & Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Retail Technology.

With Cyberview’s new masterplan to revitalise Cyberjaya, three tech clusters – Smart Mobility, Smart Healthcare and Digital Creative – have been identified to be the future pillars of the smart city. Start-ups focusing on these areas are highly encouraged to apply.

With 20% of Cyberjaya’s total population being early tech adopters, CLLA participants are not only presented with the opportunity to test and pilot their offerings within the smart city of Cyberjaya, but can also leverage on the network of investors and industry players.

Participants will be provided with resources, facilities, mentorship, networking and market access opportunities that are worth more than RM100,000 and will be based in Colnnov8, a smart city collaborative space provided by Cyberview.

Upon completion, the start-ups can either pilot their solutions and technologies or immediately proceed to execute their go-to-market strategies such as market access, sourcing for additional funding, or commercialisation. This can be done with stakeholders in Cyberjaya who are looking to transform their businesses digitally in order to adapt to today’s changing world.

It was noted that tech start-ups clearly have a bigger role to play now more than ever. Cyberview believes that the current situation with Covid-19 is an opportunity for start-ups to present their innovative ideas as market solutions.

Participants will benefit from the hub’s unique and conducive demand-led approach as the CLLA will help them accelerate the process of finding the right market fit, mentorship and formulate stronger business strategies.

They will also gain valuable access to networks of investors, government agencies, corporations and ecosystem partners for strategic partnership and collaboration.

Cyberjaya is a town with a science park as the core that forms a key part of the Multimedia Super Corridor in Malaysia. It is located in Sepang District, Selangor.

Cyberjaya is adjacent to, and developed along with Putrajaya, Malaysia’s seat of government. This town aspires to be known as the Silicon Valley of Malaysia.

Since the end of 2018, the government has worked to bring up Cyberjaya as a technological hub especially on the back of the massive potential of Malaysian technology firms to achieve high growth firms (HGF), on the side-lines of the World Bank Global Report launch titled HGF: Facts, Fiction and Policy Options for Emerging Economies in Malaysia recently.

Cyberjaya has been heralded as a “game-changer” that would complete the transformation of Cyberjaya into a global technology hub and a smart city.

It is hoped that the same enthusiasm for the city as tech hub will be re-inspired as the Malaysian government works to revitalize Cyberjaya into the technological hub it was intended to be.
