China will accelerate the construction of virtual private networks in the 5G industry and expand the country’s 5G application scenarios, according to the Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Jin Zhuanglong.

He added that the nation will also expand the coverage of high-quality networks, such as 5G and gigabit optical networks, by continuously optimising the infrastructure layout and constructing several 5G factories.

China Telecom and China Mobile, both owned by the government, have made significant strides in the telecommunications industry. China Telecom has constructed a vast all-optical network, offering gigabit optical networks in over 300 locations, whereas China Mobile has taken the lead in establishing international 5G standards and has filed for several patents. Also, another state-owned, China Tower has upgraded over 200,000 communication towers with 5G and AI technology.

The country has its sights set on the next-generation internet and other frontier sectors, advancing research and development of sixth-generation (6G) communications technology comprehensively.

The nation will facilitate the development of new types of information infrastructure facilities, accelerate the adoption of information technology, and expand the industrial internet’s integrated applications.

According to Minister Jin, the incubation of emergent sectors will be accelerated, and efforts will be made continuously to enhance the country’s full industrial-chain advantages in the mobile and optical communication sectors.

Prioritising 5G infrastructure and next-generation technological developments enables speedier and more dependable connectivity, thereby facilitating seamless communication, data transfer, and real-time applications.

It creates new opportunities for innovation and economic expansion. 5G-powered advanced technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and augmented reality (AR), drive digital transformation across industries, resulting in increased efficiency, productivity, and the development of new business models.
