Digital transformation has profoundly shaped modern society, impacting various domains such as applications, stock markets, transactions, education, and government. User interface (UI) becomes crucial in this landscape when users interact with websites or applications.

A concise and straightforward UI not only offers an aesthetically pleasing design but as well as enhances the user experience. It provides clear navigation, empowering users to find their way without hesitation or needing assistance. A well-crafted UI is pivotal in guiding users and enhancing their overall experience.

Keeping this in mind, the LINZ Data Service (LDS) website has undergone a significant transition, unveiling a brand-new user interface (UI) packed with many features and enhancements. This transformation marks a significant evolution of the website, introducing a fresh and modern design that aims to elevate the overall user experience.

With this updated UI, users can now enjoy a host of new functionalities and improvements, making their interactions with the LDS website more seamless, intuitive, and rewarding.

LINZ refers to Land Information New Zealand, an organisation responsible for managing geospatial and property information in New Zealand. LINZ is a valuable resource for government agencies, businesses, researchers, and the public, supporting decision-making processes, land administration, and spatial analysis in New Zealand.

Upon visiting the LINZ data website, visitors will promptly observe the noticeable transformation in its appearance and user experience, alongside the effortless customisation options available to tailor the interface to their specific requirements.

All the data visitors have relied upon in the past remains intact, yet now accompanied by a refreshed host of extra features. This enhanced website performance offers a more contemporary and user-friendly encounter, further enriching the overall browsing experience.

According to Aaron Jordan, the Head of Location Information at Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand, the recent interface marks a milestone as it represents the most substantial update to the data service’s visual and experiential aspects in several years. “The new interface is the first significant upgrade to the look and feel of the data service in several years, and it’s really exciting to be able to launch it today,'” says Jordan.

The upgrade introduces new features, including personalising and curating a list of preferred datasets. Additionally, users can now access 3D data and visualisation capabilities, empowering them to explore and analyse information in a three-dimensional space. The upgraded interface also allows for multiple map views, enabling users to examine different geographical perspectives simultaneously.

Moreover, flexible workflows, such as data cropping during viewing or export, enhance the user experience by providing adaptable and efficient processes. Lastly, the upgrade includes support for accessing data on mobile devices, ensuring convenient and seamless data exploration.

The opportunity to provide users with a more recent and advanced experience prompted the decision to upgrade the technology. Introducing new features aims to significantly enhance user interactions with the website and align with their evolving needs. These enhancements are designed to support users in their work processes better, ensuring a more seamless and efficient workflow.

Jordan is embracing the personalisation feature for the user. With personalisation, the user can get their information effectively and efficiently. It marks the government’s dedication to leveraging technology by enhancing its public service experience. “Being so customisable will be a game changer for LINZ Data Service users,” Jordan concluded.
