In an era of digital progress, safeguarding sensitive information has become imperative for governments, with a focus on upholding citizen privacy and national security in an interconnected world; amid escalating cyber threats, robust data protection measures are a governmental priority to maintain public trust and the integrity of vital systems.

The National Cyber and Crypto Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BSSN RI) recently organised an event in 2023 centred on the implementation of the Data Protection Task within Central Government Agencies, a significant stride in bolstering cybersecurity practices, inaugurated by Dominggus Pakel, Deputy for Cybersecurity and Cryptography Operations at BSSN. The event sought to facilitate a comprehensive comprehension of the significance of data protection in preserving the integrity of government operations and national security.

With this initiative, BSSN aimed to impart a deeper understanding of the Data Protection Task Force’s roles, functions, and activities to the central government agencies. Among the attendees were various officials from within the BSSN community, contributing their expertise and insights to the event’s discourse. Additionally, the gathering welcomed the Directors or Heads of Centers representing their respective agencies within the Data Protection Task Force, underscoring the collaborative and multi-faceted approach to data safeguarding.

During this session, BSSN encouraged the participants to foster awareness and discussions around the central theme of data protection. BSSN underscored the collective responsibility and commitment to safeguarding data and information, recognising their pivotal role as invaluable national assets.

In his opening address, Dominggus Pakel, the Deputy for Cybersecurity and Cryptography Operations at BSSN, highlighted the pivotal role played by BSSN in assuming a central position within the data protection task force.

Pakel stressed that this strategic appointment is a significant step in the ongoing endeavours to proactively prevent data breaches and further fortify the robustness of responses to any potential breach incidents, reflecting a collective commitment to advancing data security practices to better the nation’s cybersecurity landscape.

“Nonetheless, this responsibility is a shared one, underscoring our collective commitment to safeguarding data and information as our nation’s invaluable assets,” Pakel emphasised.

Pakel expressed his optimism that through this stride, BSSN aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the roles, functions, and activities of the Data Protection Task Force to central government agencies.

The purpose and objectives of this endeavour are multi-fold. The event seeks to disseminate knowledge about the mission and execution of the BSSN Data Protection Task Force, introducing attendees to its purpose and modus operandi (mode of operation).

Moreover, it aims to assist government agencies in comprehending the significance of safeguarding government data, fostering a deeper appreciation for data protection’s role in preserving national interests. The event further endeavours to facilitate discussions, enabling a platform for interactive exchanges.

This collaborative discourse aims to collectively establish schedules and action plans for the activities of the Data Protection Task Force, resonating with the participants of this informative event. This initiative emphasises BSSN’s commitment to driving awareness and underscores its proactive stance in ensuring adequate data protection practices for the nation’s greater security.
