Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, has revealed that the National Data Center (PDN) construction in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, is progressing according to plan and is expected to be completed by September 2024.
“I just chaired a meeting regarding PDN Cikarang. The plan is to inaugurate the PDN in Cikarang in September 2024. Among the three planned PDNs, which include Cikarang, Batam, and the National Capital Region in East Kalimantan, Cikarang will be the first to be inaugurated,” said Budi Arie Setiadi.
Establishing the National Data Center is part of the government’s initiative to provide the necessary facilities to support the implementation of the Electronic Government System (SPBE), which aims to realise the vision of One Data Indonesia. This project demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving information and communication technology infrastructure to enhance efficiency and coordination in governance.
With the successful completion of this project as planned, there is optimism of a significant improvement in providing more effective data and services for the public and various government sectors. The development of the PDN also has a crucial objective: to support more efficient, productive, and responsive governance in the digital era.
With the PDN in place, the government is planning to provide better, faster, and more efficient services to the public. Budi Arie Setiadi explained that at this stage, the construction progress of PDN Cikarang is approximately 20% of the overall project. Although this percentage may seem small, he expressed confidence that this crucial digital infrastructure project will be completed by September 2024.
It demonstrates the government’s commitment to advancing the information and communication technology sector and ensuring that the necessary facilities to support digital transformation and more efficient governance are available on time.
In addition to the construction of PDN Cikarang, the government is also preparing two additional PDNs, namely PDN Batam in the Riau Islands and PDN in the National Capital Region in East Kalimantan. These projects are integral to the government’s efforts to optimise information and communication technology infrastructure to achieve various important goals. The development of PDNs plays a strategic role in consolidating government data.
Government data is distributed across over 2,700 data centres and servers in various locations throughout Indonesia, both at the central and regional government levels. It presents significant challenges in efficient data management, data interoperability, and information security. With the establishment of PDNs, it is envisioned that all government data, whether at the national or regional level, can be integrated and consolidated more effectively. It will enable faster, more accurate, and secure data access for various government entities.
Furthermore, data interoperability between various government sectors is going to improve, allowing for more effective information exchange and coordination among government agencies. Therefore, developing PDNs is about building sophisticated digital infrastructure and enhancing the government’s ability to manage data effectively, improve public services, and support the One Data Indonesia initiative. It represents a significant step forward in achieving efficient, transparent, and responsive governance to meet the needs of the public in the digital era.
