In a significant collaboration, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has joined forces with a leading US-based global technology company specialising in simulation, high-performance computing (HPC), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The partnership aims to inaugurate an eMobility Simulation Lab, generously supported with a financial contribution of US$1 million from the company.

Situated in the Department of Engineering Design at IIT Madras, the eMobility Simulation Lab is equipped with cutting-edge products and tools, courtesy of the company’s financial support. The collaboration sets the stage for the establishment of additional labs and facilities, focusing on research and training within the eMobility domain.

The lab, a focal point for the company’s modelling and simulation tools, plays a crucial role in supporting academic activities across various eMobility labs. These include labs dedicated to Batteries, Charging, Power Electronics, Motors and Controllers, and Vehicle Engineering, among other pertinent areas. These collective facilities align with multiple academic initiatives initiated by the Department of Engineering Design at IIT Madras in the field of eMobility.

The company’s commitment goes beyond financial support, extending to the provision of the company’s software and hardware. This comprehensive backing empowers students and faculty at IIT Madras to utilise these resources, building essential skills in the rapidly evolving eMobility sector.

CS Shankar Ram, Head of the Department of Engineering Design at IIT Madras, articulates the long-term vision of transforming the department into a hub for all matters related to eMobility. The eMobility Simulation Lab plays a pivotal role in realising this vision, serving as a crucial enabler. The anticipated outcomes include heightened student learning experiences, support for academic projects and research initiatives, and the reinforcement of skilling programs within the eMobility domain.

The collaboration between IIT Madras and the company marks a significant milestone in the realm of eMobility research and education. The establishment of the eMobility Simulation Lab not only represents a dedicated space for cutting-edge research but also signifies a strategic step towards nurturing talent and expertise in the ever-evolving field of eMobility. As the partnership unfolds, it is poised to contribute substantially to advancements in academic knowledge, research outcomes, and the development of skilled professionals in the eMobility sector

Pioneering the development of technology-driven solutions for the nation, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) is actively engaged in various initiatives that harness cutting-edge innovations.

OpenGov Asia reported the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras), has launched ‘Sanjaya,’ an advanced location intelligence platform in Haryana through its Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS). This innovative platform is crafted to support road-owning agencies, law enforcement, emergency care providers, and various stakeholders in the road safety sector by providing visual data on high-frequency accident zones. The primary objective is to empower targeted interventions and strategic planning for enhanced road safety initiatives in the region.

Sanjaya operates as a consolidated platform, offering stakeholders the ability to picture crash black spots and identify emerging areas of concern. This enables them to implement necessary interventions with precision, strategically addressing specific locations.

The platform incorporates a range of tools, including kilometre analysis, corridor analysis, cluster analysis, and point radius analysis, complemented by visualisations such as heat maps and trend patterns.

Such initiatives underscore IIT Madras’s commitment to leveraging technology for the betterment of road safety and align with its role as a pioneer in developing solutions that contribute to the nation’s progress.
