The Ministry of Communication and Informatics of Indonesia has provided state civil servants in the Samosir Regency Government with training in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for information dissemination and management.
According to Irbar Samekto, Head of the Centre for Human Resources Development and Research, Medan Research and Development of Human Resources, the training is one of the supports for teaching communication skills and using ICT for spreading development information. “Kominfo has built digital infrastructure evenly and must be used to improve local government public services so that they are easily accessible to the public.”
He added that ICT is assisting people in improving their literacy, with the goal of improving public services and increasing community productivity. It is also concerned with improving human resource competency for the public, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The Ministry is confident that the training would improve the ability of the public servants to disseminate information on regional development. Moreover, social media is an opportunity to provide information services to the public and during technological advances, regionals’ ability to manage communicative social media accounts is needed and can ensure that the information disseminated has clear sources and does not contain elements of lies or hoaxes.
Last month, the Ministry continued to encourage MSMEs to embrace digital transformation. One of these initiatives is the Digital Technology 4.0 Adoption Programme, which targets MSME producers in the processing sector in 13 priority areas. This 6-month offline and online program involved 165 facilitators or local heroes and was implemented in 15 Training Centre locations spread across those 13 priority areas.
Petra Digital brings unification
The Ministry of Communication and Informatics encourages and fully backs the active participation of the Catholic Youth Centre in the National Digital Literacy Movement through the establishment of the National Youth Movement for Digital Transformation, also known as Petra Digital. This participation was made possible through the establishment of the National Youth Movement for Digital Transformation.
The phrase “for the sake of the Church and the Motherland” is translated from the Latin phrase “Pro Ecclesia et Patria,” which is like the term “Petra” in the name of the movement. Because of this, the participation of Catholic youth in assisting digital abilities needs to be directed toward the common good for the sake of doing what they love for the improvement of both the church and the nation.
The participation of the Indonesian youth generation must be at the forefront of digital transformation accelerators to construct an inclusive digital system and produce new economic opportunities for community-based groups located throughout the country.
In the face of difficulties such as these, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics aims to promote the growth of national values through digital literacy, particularly among the younger generation.
Indonesia is currently creating a variety of different sectors that are making progress. There are also significant difficulties such as extremism, intolerance, and politicisation that spread through the internet realm. These things have the potential to destroy the spirit of togetherness and nationalism. With this, the Ministry acknowledges that youth engagement must be at the forefront of digital transformation accelerators to construct an inclusive digital system and generate new economic opportunities for community-based groups in every region of the country.
