The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Social Security System (SSS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that formalised their partnership and allowed the SSS to use PhilSys-enabled services without any issues. The SSS was the first government-owned and controlled company (GOCC) to do so.
Rolando Ledesma Macasaet, President and CEO of the Social Security System (SSS) stated that adopting PhilSys will give the Philippine government many chances to improve services, such as digital transfers, and give all Filipinos better access to social security protection. He is looking forward to the good things that will come from the correlation, which will help SSS members and stakeholders not just in the Philippines but all over the world.
Under the MoU, SSS and PSA will work together and share information and resources to reach the goals of PhilSys, such as making government processes easier and putting in place a system that makes it easier for people to get services. In addition, the partnership will look into how PhilSys can be used in the SSS and find other ways to work together on projects and programmes.
One of the projects that have been chosen and will be put into action by the third quarter of 2023 is the use of PhilSys authentication services and the PhilID/ePhilID to verify members more thoroughly when they do business online through the My.SSS Portal and to make sure that each new SSS ATM Pay Card is issued to the right person.
Claire Dennis Mapa, PSA Undersecretary, National Statistician, and Civil Registrar General, said he was confident that the partnership would speed up the shift to digital, online services that focus on the needs of Filipinos.
The Philippine Identification System Act, Republic Act No. 11055, created PhilSys. Its goal is to give valid proof of identity to all citizens and permanent residents of the Philippines. This will make it easier for both the government and the private sector to do business, as well as speed up the country’s transition to a digital economy.
The said agencies agree that it’s important for governments to make it easier and smoother for people to get services. These changes can make the government work better and more efficiently, make people happier, and help society as a whole.
Simplified services make it easier for more people, even those who don’t know much about technology or don’t have much money to spend on it, to use government services. This makes sure that people who are weak or on the outside don’t get left behind and can get the services they need.
Besides, people find it easier to work with government departments and get the services they need when services are streamlined and work together. This makes people happier and makes them think better of government organisations, which builds trust and goodwill between the government and the citizens.
Also, streamlining saves people time and effort by getting rid of the need for a lot of paperwork, repeating steps, and going to government buildings in person. This can also save people money because they might not have to take time off work or pay for transport or other costs.
Likewise, streamlined processes result in citizens receiving speedier responses to their questions and resolutions to their problems, which is especially crucial in time-sensitive matters, which is the most important for the Philippine government.
