Bac Giang, Vietnam Enhances Digital Awareness

To boost digital awareness in the province, Bac Giang is promoting the implementation of a plan to improve local youths’ digital skills. According to the provincial Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Committee, Bac Giang authorities will disseminate information about digital transformation and skills to raise digital awareness.

The Committee will encourage cashless payment among the HCYU members and residents in the province and has signed a cooperation agreement with the Bac Giang Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank for the same.

Furthermore, Bac Giang plans to enhance assistance for selling agricultural products through e-commerce platforms. It will survey local farm produce, products of the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) programme, and farming households to work with relevant agencies to put products up for sale on e-commerce platforms. The province also inked a plan with the HCYU Committee of the Vietnam Post Corporation to facilitate the sale of lychee and other agricultural specialities on the firm’s e-commerce platform.

Digital technology will be applied at historical and cultural relic sites as well as tourist attractions. The Committee finished the digitalisation of the special national relic sites of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda and the Xuong Giang Victory venue to help popularise local tourism online. The improvement of digital skills and the application of scientific, technical, and technological advances is an inclusive and consistent task in HCYU affairs, the Committee’s Standing Board stated.

The province will continue boosting HCYU members’ and the youths’ engagement in conducting communications, implementing digital transformation tasks, and assisting residents to access digital services and online public services, the HCYU Committee noted.

In the first half of 2022, the Standing Board coordinated with the provincial Department of Information and Communications and district-level People’s Committees to set up community-based digital technology groups to increase the participation of young people. It also opened training courses on digital skills for members.

So far, 209 groups at the communal level and 1,891 others in villages have been formed with 9,950 members. The establishment of those groups was inspired by the community-based anti-COVID-19 groups, according to Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Information and Communications Nguyen Gia Phong.

The provincial HCYU Committee worked with the province’s centre for employment services to organise two online job fairs for young people, especially those made jobless by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, nearly 1,000 youngsters were connected with employers.

In 2020, Vietnam approved the National Digital Transformation Programme by 2025, with an orientation toward 2030. The programme will target businesses, cooperatives, and business households that want to adopt digital transformation to improve their production, business efficiency, and competitiveness.

Under the strategy, all national databases including those for population, land, business registration, finance, and insurance should be online and connected, with shared data on a government reporting information system. The inspection of state management agencies must be done through digital systems and information systems. The annual labour production is to be increased by 8% by 2030.
